hi there

anyone know a easy software to use to convert wma files to mp3 so i can use it on itunes?

You will need to get Flip4Mac (http://flip4mac.com). The basic (free) version will allow you to play back Windows Media content via Quicktime (so in any application that uses QuickTime). If you want to be able to convert from wma to mp3 you will need to purchase Flip4 Mac Player Pro, which can save into any other format that QuickTime can write to.

there is a program called switch, which converts many types of audio file to many types of audio file. Not 100% sure where I got it from, but its worth checking out :)

Itunes can do that without any other converter!

Make sure you configure your Itunes first, to rip and convert into MP3 format: From Edit > Preferences > Advanced > Importing > Import Using: MP3 Encoder and set other options as you please.

Then from Windows Explorer (assuming you are using Windows) and find the folder (or folders) where WMA files are and drag into Itunes and it will import and convert them to the file format according to what you've set above. The location where the imported files will be is displayed at General tab in the Advanced tab of the Preferences.

WMA import will only work with non-DRM WMAs.

When the import and conversion is done, you might want to do a bit of touch up on those files as Itunes have "Album Artist" metadata and WMA (as far as I know) does not have this metadata. And when using coverflow, it will seems weird to have one album to have different many artists (for compilation or various artists). So if such a case happened and they are of same album, fill them (via Get Info, on each or multiple files) as the main artist's name in the Album Artist, or Various for compilation, then this will group them together in coverflow.

Also, if you have other formats (AAC, M4A etc), you can use Advanced > Convert Selection to MP3 (or whatever format is set and avail) to do conversion from within Itunes too.
