From the apple site it says I should be able to run it.

Plug in a Displayport 1.2 to HDMI Adaptor, run HDMI 2.0 cable to my 4K tv. It can only run 4K at 30hz. In the display setting I can't boost it up to 60hz. I have windows through bootcamp and having the same issues.

Does anyone know how to make this work? Really trying not to have to upgrade my laptop, but all signs are pointing to that.

Thanks,

Are you sure it's not the TV's HDMI port?  I know that My Panasonic can only do 4K HDR at 60Hz on HDMI 1 & 2.  HDMI 3 & 4 do 4K HDR at 30Hz. I think 3 & 4 will do SDR at 60Hz but not HDR.

Where does Apple say that model will support what you want to do?

I can only see specs that say it will only do 30Hz at 4k.

It can do 60Hz at 1080p.

Is this not it?

Or am I looking at the wrong header? and I should be looking under "HDMI displays"

My 2015 macbook pro is running 4k at 60hz right now.... Maybe check the power setting and make sure that it is going to the GPU?

How are you connected?

What chords/adaptors are you using? Any chance you can link those?
Thanks,

Right I see, and yes you will need to be using the displayport.

By using the displayport to HDMI adapter that is probably what's dropping it down to 30Hz again.

@thestokes are you using a displayport cable direct to your screen?

What HDMI revision does the adaptor use? Odds are it's only HDMI 1.4 which doesn't support 4K @ 60Hz. Check the specs of the adaptor, DisplayPort is a fickle beast.

ahhh okay, thanks!..
So seems like with the 2015 MacBook pro you can't output 4K@60 from HDMI OR through DP-->HDMI. The monitor needs to have DP input.. which my TV does not.

are you using an active adapter to go from dp to hdmi?

eg. https://www.nzgameshop.com/pc-display-cables-and-adapters/startech-mini-displayport-to-hdmi-adapter-4k-60hz
