I’m looking for a replacement battery for my MacBook Pro.

MacBook Pro 13-inch, Late 2011
Model: A1278
ID: MacBookPro8,1

Does anyone have any experience with purchasing replacement batteries?

Should I buy local or import - I’m wondering if there might be shipping problems with laptop batteries.

What about https://www.battery-plus.co.nz or https://www.laptopbattery.co.nz - might be more expensive than getting something from Trademe, but maybe a better chance of getting something that isn’t rubbish.

Looking to see what other people have done here.

Had no trouble getting one off a Trademe seller in May 2018 for $54.98 delivered, and yes it was not a genuine Apple battery. Have checked the seller out (milfil) but it appears they not selling that battery anymore.

But a quick search of Trademe shows they are there.

Have had no problems with the non-genuine battery.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

Thanks for the advice, I'm not really expecting to fine a "genuine" Apple battery, but I expect there mighty be quite a range between the quality of the best and the worst third-party batteries. The difference between the best and the mediocre ones might not be apparent for 3-4 years.

Most likely I'll end up getting one on Trademe as the price is about half that of some of the specialist battery sellers.

I got mine a four year ago from https://www.laptopbattery.co.nz and it has been faultless, their supplier may have changed since I got mine but if you buy local you get support if you need it.

Thanks for all the feedback.

I ended up getting the one from https://www.laptopbattery.co.nz who had a special offer on, which made it just a bit more expensive than some of the Trademe sellers. I just need to install it now that I've found the correct screwdriver.
