Will be interesting to see what the announcements will be this year.

There are rumours of ARM based Macs being in the pipeline, and that Apple will talk about them in their Monday keynote.

The event starts at 5 AM Tuesday 23 July here in NZ.

First year since 2005 I didn't even realise when it was happening! Hopefully some nice surprises coming. I've been so bored with Apple in recent years.

Time for some Big Sur

I think that should read: MacOS Big Sur 11.0 – Updated Index of Need to Know Changes & Links

I watched the event on my iPad in bed this morning and that new whole number version stood out like dogs balls.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

The new spatial sound simulation feature on Airpods Pro sounds impressive. It will be interesting to see how well it works in the real world.

There's nothing else that's been announced today that particularly interests me, but I think using ARM based chips in Macs makes strategic sense.

The one thing I would really like to see on Watch OS is the ability to start a sports activity with the water lock mode engaged. It's pretty much impossible to operate a capacitive touchscreen when you're outside in the rain, and this is a major design deficiency for serious athletes.

I'm curious to see how the Watch face store will work..."specially curated"...in other words, still incredibly locked down.

I understand why the watchfaces are so locked down and you can't just do whatever you want like on a Pebble, I just don't like it.

You can also share your Watch face creations with other people, so it's not really locked down.

Anyone brave enough to install the iOS 14 DB1 yet? I'm tempted but I'd hate for some of my most used apps (eg. ASB, Xero) to freak out. Seems like DB1 is triggering a "Jailbreak check" on some financial apps in the US.

Just do a backup so you can restore and install the beta when you have some time to test that all your apps work. I wouldn't do it if I was about to head off to work or anything but I might do it on the weekend when I have the time to put it back to 13 if needed.

Interesting that they are also doing public beta for Apple Watch for the first time. In the past, the Apple Watch betas have required taking your watch into an apple store if you needed to go back.

Says a lot to me about Apple these days that this thread only has 9 replies including this one.

I did install the beta of iOS 14 on my Xr today, looking forward to having a play over the weekend.

The Apple ARM announcement is epic. Imo the days of x86 on the desktop are numbered from here. At some point following, ARM tech will migrate into the server space.

ARM is already used for servers, although not by Apple (yet)
