Hi guys, im not 100% sure if this has been posted elsewhere, but here goes just in case (unfortunately I had to post here because there is no "Apple" forum);
I just rang Apple about buying some new headphones for my iPhone, which is all good and fine,

The lady I spoke to was looking into some product details for me and said she had to place me on hold so she could go talk to one of her 'superiors', so she put me on hold for about 5 minutes.

When she came back she said that he didnt know anything either about the product.. Wasnt too phased by this (although it would have been nice to know more, but this is the weird part)
I asked her why they had no details or anything on this product,
This was her reply "Unfortunately, we dont have any details for you, so I can't tell you whether the iPhone is going to be compatiable with these new earphones."

I curiously replied with "What do you mean you dont know? this is your (Apple) product isnt it?"

and she promptly replied with "Its unfortunately Apples policy. They dont feed us any details until the product is actually realeased on the day. Like when a new iPod was released for example; we recieved a phone call from someone saying why didnt you tell me about this new iPod that was being released today when rang up the other day and bought my current one?

So we are much like the customer. We are left in the dark until the very very last minute."

So it was strange actually having it confirmed by an employee, because up until now, to my knowledge, it was just all speculation.

Hope you find this interesting.

Also there is another set I was looking at:

http://store.apple.com/nz/product/MB770G/A

Its extremely common for companys big and small to not release details of new products to employees until the day of release. There is no story here.

Companies spend large sums of money getting their marketing, product delivery, press releases and other components 'just so', and staff knowing in advance often leads to leaks (such as on forums, or even to customers) which can dilute or even destroy the impact a product launch (even a minor one) can have.

Might sound silly on earphones, but why micro-manage rules on each product - its easier just to say "No details to go to staff until launch day".

Good point. and I dont really deny any of it.

But I just havent seen or heard anyone that works for apple confirm it. Everytime I saw something they were a bit coy in answering.

While there isnt really a story here, i was just confirming everyone elses thoughts.

i think it's a given with apple, that if you see an item in the store with eta shipping of "coming soon" that you'll be hard pressed to get any info about it other than rumour.  its just the way they operate, but as tony say's - they're not the only ones.

There are scarier Apple policies. Reps at stores selling the iPhone have to promote it over and above any other handset (unless the rep can objectively show the alternative to be better suited to the customers particular needs). If not, VF risks losing the Apple contract. They just started requesting mystery shoppers evaluate this.

Wow.. lol. Thats simply all I can say. Seems Apple have a lot of control over their products compared to other companies. (Captain state the obvious)

Believe it or not, they were Apple faults.

cracks started coming up all over the place.

I changed to a black one, and I can 110% say its cured my problem.

I loved the white ones, I didnt love cracked white ones so I had to swap.

Except the last white one I had, it did have a crack, but i spilt a drink on it :(

so now im with my black one and i wouldnt look back :P

Ah yes, I've heard about the cracks. Apparently it happens with the black casing too though, it's just not nearly as noticeable.

Actually, with my black one, I havent got even one crack.
Its brilliant.

I have examined it over the last few weeks (whereas the white ones took anything up to 72 hours to show cracks) and still nothing but perfection.

I have a funny feeling that while the black ones can still crack, it must be something they're doing to the white ones (like making it white for example) and its making the plastic weaker.

Because as I said, no problems at all when I went black! :D

Dont be ashamed! :P

They're actually lovely devices.

While they do miss a few things that would be nice to have, its definitely my favourite phone so far.

Ive got mine on a different contract, so im not on the iPhone plan.

You can actually see the live demos in the VOdafone retail stores as well. They have one or two just sitting there with a data plan and everything so youcan test it out in store.

I got to test them before they were made live in NZ Wink. Fun to use but I think I would really need to own one to "get it".

Fair enough :P

Yeah, I always did like the iPhone.. Unfortunately, I still prefer the build of the First Gen iPhone in comparison.
