Is anyone able to confirm whether a new game controller (PS or Xbox) will work with Google Earth on my Mac running Big Sur?

Backstory is my beloved obsolete but working fine Space Navigator will work in the demo and tutorial apps within macOS, but does not work in Google Earth. This is a known issue and it doesn't look like it will ever be solved.

I'll happily buy a new controller if it lets me fly around easily in Google Earth again.
