Can't seem to unlock read/write permission on system files Big Sur even with administrator privileges and SIP disabled... any help would be greatly appreciated. I want to be able to unlock read and write permissions for files in /System/Library/ on Big Sur, so I can follow this guide (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cDNvpYGIl_4) where I am told to paste a file in an existing folder within the Systems so I can Force RGB mode for displays.

Please help? Thanks

Try putting the files in /System/Volumes/Data/System/Library instead.

I'm not certain that that'll work, but hopefully it will. As far as I'm aware, there is a read-only System volume, plus a Data volume, with the two being 'merged'. I believe that any files in the Data volume will override those in System.

Thanks for coming by. So in the video guide, it tells me to put the folder in

Finder > Go > Computer > My storage drive > Systems > Library > Displays > Contents > Resources > Overrides

but I cannot do this despite having SIP disabled.

When you say " putting the files in /System/Volumes/Data/System/Library instead" are you wanting me to put my enquired folder into your suggested path location then try dragging the folder into the video guides location?

Update: Have just tried to put the video guide folder into your recommend location then to the video guides location but issue persists :(

A quick Google gave me this link: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/big-sur-force-rgb-mode-for-displays.2268099/

Also, one of the first comments on that youtube link said: I coudn't find a way to copy the file to my system folder. So I manually created a corresponding folder path in my user library (~/Library/Displays/Contents/Resources/Overrides) and put the folder/file there. Worked.

The ~/Library notation means the Library folder under your home directory, if you're not familiar with that notation.  This is considerably less risky than trying to modify a system folder, and may be worth trying first.

Yeah, if it can go in the user library then that's definitely preferable! So ignore my earlier post :)

thanks for coming by. Um sorry if im wrong but so I am suppose to open Finder > Go tab > Computer > Storage drive > Library and make the folder called Displays. Then, in the Library folder, create following new folders: Displays/Contents/Resources/Overrides/. Afterwards copy the whole folder from the video guide and put it in the Overrides folder I created and restart?

Also, is there a way to confirm everything succeeded?

No. That'll put it in the system library instead of the user library.

From Finder's Go menu, hold Option to show hidden items and choose Library. That'll open your user library. Then create Displays and the associated folders in there.
