Hi, although I have looked up the guides on how to get my PC box to see my beloved mac, I just cannot seem to get past the PC just seeing the mac share.
Am I typing in the wrong address? When I click on browse during "add a new network place wizzard", all I seem to see is the shortname for the mac and thats it...no going past that.
Ive enabled sharing on the mac, and obviously have activated afp, smb and ftp check boxes.
running osx 10.5.6 macbook pro which is connected via airport card to the D-Link G604T. The pc is via ethernet to the G604T I have created a shared folder on the PC which the MAC can see and use. I JUST WANT THE PC to do the same with the MAC !

For sharing on my mac i have the following enabled:

File sharing
Printer sharing
Remote login
Remote management
and
Bluetooth sharing

Under file sharing I have enabled read access to Everyone, and read/write access to other users that are on my network.

That's all ive ever needed to do to get sharing working across windows/mac networks. Unless the firewall is on on the PC - that can halt things, even if one side can see the other.

thanks man. I will try the windows firewall.
In between all this, for some reason I have to re-boot my airport connection everytime I shutdown the PC.... it upsets it for some reason.

Another thing you can try is directly connecting to your mac via the Run dialog on the PC. Firstly find the IP address you mac has (System Preferences -> Network -> Click the name of the adapter you are using to connect to your network and the IP will be shown on the right.)
Open the run dialog on the PC and type \\[IP ADDRESS HERE] then press enter. If all your settings are right, (file sharing on the mac, firewall etc) then you should see a folder listing all the shares you have active.
eg. My mac has the IP address 192.168.1.1 then I would type \\192.168.1.1 in the run command.
If you know the name of the share then you can append it to the end of the IP. eg \\192.168.1.1\myShare

Thanks Phindmarsh....
However, still no go.
So far, I have created the same user name and password account that the PC uses on the mac and allowed this user to have access to all of my "home" drive.
I have set static IP's for both mac and PC on my router, with this in mind, are there any other configurables I have just not thought about?

Hmm, you could try temporarily disabling both the windows and the mac firewalls just to be sure its not them. Also, ensure you have correctly set up the mac shared folder. (you do this by ticking the shared folder checkbox in the Get Info window) and that the permissions are set correctly for the shared folder (try turning on Full Access for the group Everyone just to be sure).

I find if you open up everything and make it as insecure as possible then lock it down after you get it working its easier to pinpoint problems

See how you go with that.
