Interesting time for the event: It will be at 1pm on the 31st of October (local time).

The rumours say we will see new MacBook Pros with the new M3 Pro and M3 Max chip, but that there won't be any updates to the MacBook Air.

There are also rumours that we might see an updated 24" iMac with an M3 chip, which would be nice since it hasn't been updated since it was launched in 2021.

I was expecting some sort of touch screen macbook to make an appearance but this event seems quite low key so maybe its just an imac refresh.

That would be quite a surprise. Have been no rumours of any Mac with touch screen. I would be surprised if we ever see a Mac with a touch screen (from Apple)

They have said many times they don't see touch on a laptop or desktop as a worthwhile hci method. Meanwhile the rest of the industry has moved on without Apple.

But of course just because they have said they won't, it doesn't mean they won't.

I remember when Steve jobs introduced the iphone and then later the ipad. He critised the stylus as an input method, and said the finger is the best stylus. Then they later invented the Apple Pencil.

The Mac OS looks to have become more iOS like with buttons. I use the touch screen on my windows laptop all the time.

To be fair, the Pencil came along quite a while after Jobs' reign. Would it have still happened if he were still around? Who can say...

Steve Jobs was actually well dead before the Pencil was launched,

So its fair to say they weren't too worried what his opinion on the matter might have been...

To be fair, an Apple Pencil you can charge for, a finger, not so much...

He was talking about user interfacing with the device with a stylus for normal usage.  At the time it was common for PDA's to almost require a stylus to accurately use the resistive touchscreens.  The Pencil was released to meet a need of those who want creative input options.  It's not sold as a device to exceed the functionality of your fingers.

I recall an Apple rep once saying at a seminar I attended that Apple wouldn't likely go down the touchscreen route as that would blur the lines between iPad and MacBook. They prefer the idea of two separate and complimentary devices. In saying that, it was a couple of years ago...

If that were the case they wouldn't have bastardised macOS with iPadOS apps.
