Thoughts on this new funky bit of software?

So far, so good... Haven't found any bugs yet.  And I quite like the 'Show Top Sites' when opening a new tab.  It does look like something I have seen beofre... *cough* Opera *cough*

Middle-clicking a link in a Gmail message to open in a new tab stopped working (in the beta version it worked fine).
I was one of the fans of the tabs at the top thing. Now they removed it, and there's no setting to put it back.
Other than that, quite 'snappy'.

I like it a lot (using it in Windows Vista) but when I go to www.vodafone.co.nz or www.xbox.co.nz the sites don't display properly. Vodafone's home page has its boxes out of alignment and lines of text overlap each other, while the Xbox home page doesn't display some of the images (box with question mark in the middle).

Is this just a Windows+Safari problem? All other pages/sites I've been to display fine, plus the Vodafone and Xbox sites are fine in IE and Firefox.

Might be windows issue as the following image is what I see from VFNZ site on a Mac (looks fine for me)

As for the Xbox site, it shows all properly except 1 image... which shows as question mark.
When I attempt to view in own tab
http://www.xbox.com/NR/rdonlyres/A72261F5-CE04-44E8-9019-430DA53FF129/0/althero2halo3odst.jpg
I get an error, which may be related to their content management.

Thanks for your reply Matt. Vodafone obviously displays fine, but take a look at www.xbox.co.nz in either IE or FF and you'll see there is quite a difference between them and Safari. Sorry I still haven't figured out how to attach images otherwise I'd put one up!!

Basically the Xbox site scrolls headlines underneath the main image, as well as that main image changing to another image after several seconds - none of which happens in Safari. Any idea why?

Wonder if the page is rendered differently if you have silverlight installed.

I get the same view under IE8. I will reinstall silverlight and enable adons and try again

edit:

I see what you mean now... even under firefox on mac I get the Silverlight enhanced site, yet on the Mac and on WinXP with IE8 I was getting the more static page
My guess is that the content manager is delivering a different page for Safari 4 brower tags (or script testing for plugin)
Maybe an issue in the way that Safari manages the Silverlight plugin

I will post an image in a sec

Just confirmed that this is an issue with the XBOX site.

On the Mac version of safari, under the develop menu I chose a different User Agent (eg sent meta data to say I am using a different browser - eg Firefox 3.0.10 - Mac

and I get the Silverlight enhanced site

Thanks Matt, definitely seems like a Silverlight issue. I see that there's the official 2.0 version for Mac OS X, but there's also a 3.0 beta which I found as well.

I don't have a Mac yet (hopefully getting one on the weekend) so can't test it out yet to see if either version displays the Xbox site correctly.

KiwiNZ: I have the following Plug in Safari 4 and the page you mention renders fine
2.0.40115.0 ? from file ?Silverlight.plugin?.

Is that Mac or PC version?
On Mac I have the following plugin and it works when changing Browser ID (User-Agent) Strings to firefox or ie.
Silverlight Plug-In 2.0.40115.0 — from file “Silverlight.plugin”.
however on XP it still will not load correctly.

corksta: Thanks Matt, definitely seems like a Silverlight issue. I see that there's the official 2.0 version for Mac OS X, but there's also a 3.0 beta which I found as well.

Not a silverlight issue but a content management issue that it serves a different page for Agent ID
Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10_5_7; en-au) AppleWebKit/530.17 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Safari/530.17
and
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US) AppleWebKit/530.17 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Safari/530.17

However displays correctly when the same browser and same Silverlight plug sends the following ID
Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.5; en-US; rv:1.9.0.10) Gecko/2009042315 Firefox/3.0.10

What are you getting? Hope you enjoy it.

Final version of Safari 4 seems to be snappier and stablier.

I'm almost tempted to reverse my hard linking to /dev/null that disables the web page previews in Cover flow :0

Also Boo to removing Tabs on Top. Now I can't pretend I have Google Chrome installed :D

PS Also the new loading icon thingy / reload button on the right just confuses me :(

13" pro? gogogo!

I would if I had the money *sigh* heh.  Though you don't get nice little features like the illuminated keyboard and there's only 1 input/output for audio which I found pretty weird.  Nevertheless - SEXY.
