Stupid question...but when you purchase a Mac Book Pro new, should you recieve any CD/DVD's without for restoring etc ? Have a MBP here that requires reinstalling but havent been given any media with it etc and Im not a Mac user so dont know exactly how to go about restoring it :)

Yes it should have shipped with a DVD containing the original OS and applications installed.
