Hi
I recently lost access to my google account and i am now not sure if i can trust a free email account anymore. i have tried filling out the account recovery form a few times but i made that account around 2002-2003 and cant remember any of the details, i also no longer have access to the old ihug email that was the recovery address(well i think it was that one)

I have been thinking about getting a mobile me account as i have a mac and iPhone so some of the features that brings would be helpful

im mainly just wanting a email address that if i have problems i can call up someone to get support unlike google.

isp email account is not really an option because i move allot at usually change isp at the same time

so just wondering if anyone on here has got or has experience with a mobile me account and thinks they are worth it

I find it great , no spam so far, it syncs with my iMac , Macbook and iPhone without effort. If you have iPhone the where is my iPhone feature is just awesome.

I use the Calendar extensively and the Gallery is great .

There has been a lot of it becoming free after the new Apple Data Center is opened later this year.

Also you can trial it for free for 60 days.

I have a MobileMe address as well and think it's worth it. I have an iMac, MacBook Pro, iPhone and iPad, and they all work well together with MM.

The annual fee is expensive ($143 per year), but you can simply buy the codes from eBay. This year I bought a renewal code for a Family Pack for less than $100 from eBay, whereas it's normally $203.

The only real way to know if it's right for you is to try the 60 days they offer you and see how it works.

Now that the Gallery app is universal it's awesome. We can upload all our photos to MM and use the iPad as a mobile photo album, pictures look amazing on its display.

I used to use Gmail and found it to be adequate for my needs, but like you I'm not a huge fan of free email providers so I recently signed up for Mobile Me. The cost is hard to justify, but considering the convenience of having all of my email, calendars and contacts consolidated in one place with over-the-air updates to all of my devices is probably enough that I consider it to be worthwhile. The 'find my iPhone' feature is a huge bonus, and the other stuff like Gallery and iDisk is definitely useful.

So, if you're strapped for cash then you'd get away with using free alternatives but otherwise it's very handy to have.

Agreed. That's my only gripe.

Is it any good though if you only have pc's in the house?

Interested in it for the tracking, but that's about it. It's a bit expensive just to use for that purpose (we are also both on prepay)

Ok thanks next time I'm on my iMac I will sign up for the trial and see what's it's like. I thought the trial was only a limited time thing when you bought a new device.

MobileMe is magic - I can put entries from my iPhone, iPad, Mac or on the web they all appear on all my devices without having to worry about syncing etc. Everything gets pushed.

Publishing from iWeb is seamless and so is sharing documents/photos through iDisk and gallery

I use it because it is easy to give people my MobileMe email address.

id go for it,  i got it even when i just had an iphone and a pc, now i have macs it makes the world of difference. its just knowing that all my contacts and emails are just there, regardless if i have to restore my phone, or upgrade my mac, just enter in your details.

bam, and the dirt is gone.

or a similar saying.

the cost is high, but the value of it, is getting better as the months go on, they are improving the service and the features all the time.

I feel that until they release some real differentiating services (beyond the special features for iPhone users) that MobileMe is just too expensive to warrant the cost when there are so many free/freemium providers of similar services out there on the web (notwithstanding the odd glitch). Remember, MobileMe had a very public and problematic time at launch that left a bitter taste in many an Apple lover. Apple is still coming to grips with 'the Cloud' so don't be lulled into a false sense of security that you're necessarily getting superior service levels just because you pay money.

The concern I would have with mobileme is Apple's propensity to kill off services when it doesn't seem to be worth their while; an example of that recently would be the website hosting. At $143 per year I really have to ask is it worth that amount? if it were something like $104 ($2 per week) the it would be a great deal but at $143 for features free services like Google provides it is a difficult thing to justify.
