Hi,

My recent study of buying Macbook Air 13inch / 128g model costs NZD $2,119 inc GST (after student discount) and in Aussie mac store, I found it costs AUD $1,599 (standard price) inc GST, and GST could be refunded so actual cost is AUD $1,453 ex GST.

At current currency exchange rate, AUD $1,453 is NZD $1,894 (From Google)

What I want to know is whether its worth try it, would Apple NZ honour the warranty?

Cheers

Shin

Apple warranty is international, so you won't have problems getting an Aussie bought Macbook Air serviced in NZ in that respect.

That's correct, the MacBook warranty (like most of their products) is international so absolutely no issue with purchasing one from overseas.

not only Apple's but most other manufacturers too

I have claimed warranty service from Dell, HP and ASUS to name a few.

You might get stopped by customs on the way into NZ but any seasoned traveler should be more than adequate to handle this.

(A reminder, I can not advocate lying on the customs declaration)

IF you don't need the box that come with the Apple MacBook Air? Then ditch it in Aussie and just keep the accessories, get a laptop bag or something, then it use it... then it becomes personal usage and no longer really subject to "importing". NZ Customs be more interested if it has arrived as new unopened box or unused product. Usually it is fine for private import/use especially.

The reality is customs just don't care. They are only interested in drugs, porn and commercial importing. If it even looks like it might be used they won't even ask. They rely on you to be honest about what you are bringing in.

are you ordering from aussie or will you be there and taking it back with you.

if you are ordering it online, you will have to pay NZ GST when it comes into the country which would make it $2178.1, and it would be held by until you pay this.

if you are going to aussie, ditch the box, and bring it back and you should get away with it, they wont know if you had it before you left or not.

Apple don't deliver internationally anyway so that's not a consideration.

I was at Sydney airport on Monday, was tempted by the price of iPads there but after conversion to NZ$ - decided it wasn't worth it...
