Seems pretty slow processor, on the good side it has 512mb of ram, Just seems abit over the top
seeing i could get a windows laptop cheaper then this.

There is no reason to buy an iBook now with the advent of the MacBook. Fast Core Duo processor, 13.3" widescreen and starting at NZ$2359.

I went for the Pro myself, but I have played with them down at the Apple Store and they beat the pants off the iBook. Fantastic toys. And you can even install Windows, should you need to remember why you bought a Mac ;-)

I agree with Mostly Harmless. The iBook is based on a dead end technology and you'd be foolish not to wait for the Macbook to be available in New Zealand (if it's not already), unless you desperately need to buy something right now.

You'll still pay a big premium over a Windows notebook with equivalent hardware specs, but noone here will be able to give you advise on whether the price is justified, because you haven't provided any background information about your requirements.

Adding to the above...

Please remember that a 1ghz PPC processor is not the same as a 1ghz x86 processor... in saying that I agree with the above. I have a 12' Powerbook 1ghz, really nice machine but with the intel processors being used I wouldn't buy a PPC version again.

the 12" G4 iBooks still have a selling point: 5-6 hours of batterry life
that is the most important thing in a laptop anyway if you ask me :-)

Don't forget that there are many architectures of x86 proces these days - while a 1Ghz PIII may be slower than a G4, the Core Duo at 1Ghz should beat the pants off it. The major downside is the integrated graphics on the MacBook is fairly rubbish - it wasn't great on the iBook, but at least it was dedicated!

And these days you're not paying that much of a premium for the Macs (well, probably more in NZ) ... with the advent of the x86 Macs there are plenty of comparisions out there on pricing, usually against Dell. So generally well worth the investment, especially if you use a lot of the iLife suite.

Oh, and get at least 1Gb of RAM, whatever you decide. It's well worth the money.

Dont buy iBook for 1900!
At least I am selling my 12" Powerbook G4 1.5GHz (bought in January) for around 2000NZD on trademe so I think the iBook for 1900 is a rip off. :)
