Lion OSX was released this morning so downloading now. who else is getting it? It was $38 on the NZ App store, pretty awesome price being a recent apple convert Im used to paying quite a bit more for Windows new version.

It's a toy OS. I'll be sticking with 10.6.

Me too. I've looked through the list of features and the vast majority of them are of no interest to me, and the few that I'd like aren't worth the drawbacks.

Some of those "new features" are grasping at straws too, for example one of them is promoting a brand-new feature (I've forgotten which), but another is stating that there's a Cancel button in that new UI. A Cancel button is worthy of a feature list?

It's a shame that a 4gb download is the only way to get it. That would probably blow my data allowance.

Still, I wasn't desperate to upgrade anyway as I don't think there are any significant benefits for me, and sometimes a new version of the OS can break compatibilities until third party vendors start supporting it.

It'll be available on physical media (a USB drive) next month. $69 in the US, local pricing not yet announced.

I have installed it on my 2011 iMac and it's awesome. I had my doubts after reading the feature list and then I thought what the hell, I had the bandwidth, it's only $39.

I have to say my doubts have been set aside it's an awesome OS and the new feature just make it OSX more refined.

I have installed it on a mid 2011 IMac 27" quad core.

It took about 30minutes after the download. Remember to backup and if you are using any Rosetta dependent Apps either upgrade them or delete them as Lion wont support them. Also make sure your Snow Leopard is up to date.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Apple are charging for service packs? Man what a great business model.

Service packs (simply called "updates" in the Mac world) are freely downloadable from Apple's support site or the Software Update app.

Lion is a new OS version, like moving from Windows Vista to 7.

Just finished installing mine now. Went through without any problems very easy only had to click one thing. So far its the little things that make it seem nicer, like hidden scrollbars and the new expose' works nicer. haven't had enough time to notice anything else yet. I dont know why people think each version of osx is a service pack. that doesn't even make sense, while im sure loin has many service updates in it, its main focus is features albeit some of them not as cool as others, I wouldn't expect to pay for service packs either considering most of the service packs fix bugs, security holes (same as apple doesn't charge for security or service updates). Also MS has a nice track record of saying its gonna give feature x in service pack updates and then never does only later putting alot of those features into the next version i.e. win7 which you usually have to pay a couple hundreds bucks for, so in reality lion seems good value to me.

Download, show package contents, grab the .dmg from inside, burn it to DVD or restore to a USB drive, and then boot from that.
