Hello. I have just bought an iMac. Running Lion. Previously a Windows guy. Trying to copy a family dvd. Can do this on the PC in 5mins. Works fine in a dvd player. I use DVDfab. There's no Mac version of this.

But copying via the Mac the finished copy plays on the iMac and the PC but not on a DVD player.

I'm using this as a guide. http://dvd-copy-software-review.toptenreviews.com/how-to-copy-a-dvd-with-your-imac.html

Questions:
- what am I doing it wrong.
- should I purchase Toast?

Cheers

Welcome to the wonderful world of Mac software where even a simple CD/DVD burning app costs money. Toast is pretty much the best solution.

Not necessarily.
Have you tried "Burn" an open source disk burning app?

Downloaded and seems ok in Lion, give it a try

Cheers,
Joseph

There is a disk burning facility built in, if you go into disk Utility, you'll find the option there

Two weeks pass and I'm still getting advice - brilliant.

I'm not a third party fan. I figured some dude in Palo Alto sat down and figured a way to burn without the use of third pary apps. So I stopped being lazy and searched and read and searched and read...

And yes - it's all built in and works fine. Bit fiddly I think, but once you've done it three or five times then it's all good.

Anyway - I'm happy - thank the reponders and u can probably close this thread Mr.Admin
