We have a home network with a 2Tb attached storage we use for work files.

Is there an easy way for me to mail my wife a link to a file on that file storage device that she can click on when she is at home in order to open it?

I cannot think of one but I am sure there are brighter brains here who can!

At the moment I have to send her and email saying "I have finished work in file xyz on the Drobo - you can look at it now and add your bits" and she then has to go the long way round.

I would much prefer to say "click here to open fileXYZ and you can add your bits" but can't quite see how.

Try:

file://NAS/folder/file.ext or
file://192.168.1.1/folder/file.ext (or equivalent IP address)

There'd be lots more technologically solutions possible for better workflow of shared documents, but for a simple link this should work:

Z:\Directory\Filename.doc

Where Z: is the shared drive (assuming both computers have given it the same letter)

It's on a Mac network - the drive is called "Office" rather than having a letter.

Does that make a difference?

Using a file URL should work i.e.

file://Office/folder/file.ext

Is there anything simple like a right click to just create the link?

There appear to be a number of utilities e.g. http://www.limit-point.com/Utilities/FilePathCM.html and work-arounds e.g. http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20071018002311820

(Who knew that something as simple as copying the file path would be near-impossible on a Mac?)

I know! You would imagine that since everything else is usually so easy this would be too!

I remember when I got my first one about 6 years ago, I had to revert to the manual to work out how to open the CD drawer!

Who would have thought it was something as obvious as an 'eject' button on the keyboard?!
