I struggle to see how anyone cannot be on the side of the police.
I am disappointed with the journalist spin on the Nz Herald article why even report such garbage.
Long story short: Guy breaks into golf club, threatens to kill police, shoots at police, police shoot him. I don't see the problem.

Yet somehow now police are now being made to look like the bad guys. I understand rights and fairness but to me this defies all logic, how is it even questionable, is it just poor journalism or are there people out there who actually somehow feel he should not of been shot

Police killing: 'It's just wrong' says grieving grandma

Police fatally shot burglar Adam Morehu in the back, before hitting him over the head with a torch, his family says.

Details on the two bullet wounds have emerged after the Taranaki man's body was returned to his family for burial, along with a preliminary pathologist's report.

"I don't know that I would grieve any less if he was shot in the front, but being shot in the back - that's just wrong," said Diane Richardson, the mother of his partner Kaly......

I think the police did the right thing (based on what I know from that article), however an investigation still has to take place. The article didn't seem anti police to me?

I'm not a complete idiot, I still have some parts missing.

The OP was talking about the sensationalist headline and the "spin" they put on it.

Unfortunately it sells newspapers, balanced journalism is secondary to profit, it would seem.

It does if you use the full editor.

Put simply, if you don't want to get shot and killed by police, don't go out and rob someones place and shoot at said police.

Sort of like that guy who tried to rob a gun shop with a machete I think. He was clearly going there to kill / attack whoever. Who the hell in their right mind is going to stand there and let someone attack them with a machete, or anything for that matter?

Journalists love doing this stuff because people slop it up. Its not the first time and certainly wont be the last.

Well, IMO, the police are justified in using firearms to defend themselves (their lives) but the first option has to be to contain the scene and even withdraw if necessary.  This was a burglary on a golf course in the early morning (I presume it was early as in dark), this means no one was actually in danger other than the police who had the option of retreating a little.

To shoot and kill a burglar, in the back is unjustified to me.  Of course you could say he was armed and may have been a danger to the public but this (shooting in the back) is a bit OTT and this ain't America.  Still, hopefully there will be a "proper" investigation....

And if the police had withdrawn from the scene letting the burglar go who then went on a shooting spree and killed lots of innocent people?

He has shot at the police and is therefore a danger not just to the police, but to the public too.  Personally I have no problem with the way the police have responded as it has been reported.

The guy who was shot was friends with Steven Wallace who was shot by police in eerily similar circumstances back in 2000. I recall that there was a huge fuss over that and people crying out about supposed racism (when the cop who shot him was also Maori).  I went to school with one of Steven Wallace's cousin who was a real bad kid - a chronic kleptomaniac stealing workshop tools constantly. Not sure if that says anything about the nature of people from Waitara..

hmm ok so if you shoot at police then they should move away from scene to let them cool down, really are you serious.

So he was shot in back and we know all the facts like maybe being that there were 2 police officers they weren't standing side by side of the offender turned at last minute for some reason. All speculation so until all facts come out maybe better not to condemn on very little.

Next thing we'll have people saying they should shoot in the legs or arms like they do in hollywood.

Who knows how we will react when confronted by an idiot with a firearm that has shot at us when we are holding a firearm. Some people seem to think they know but guessing they have never been in similar situation or been under fire, oh to have such insight into ourselves.

the man was innocent.  He had finished work early in the morning.  Then realised he left something at the golf club the day before so went in to retrieve it.  Then when he left he was shooting rabbits.  Not his fault the police were in the area and though he was shooting at them
