I bought a Stonedine frying pan from Mitre 10 a few weeks back. It was great for the first few weeks - just like the ads showed, with nothing sticking to the surface at all. But recently, the non-stick surface is now no better than any other frypan. I've followed the instructions exactly as given - no scouring, no harsh detergents/dishwashers, no metal implements, etc. I've been "seasoning" the pan with rice bran oil after every use, but it hasn't made any difference. In short, I've done everything required of me, and nothing I shouldn't have done. Yet it's now just a plain old frypan.
So here's my question - is it reasonable to expect that it should continue to perform as it originally did for more than just a few weeks? Or would the Consumer Guarantees Act simply conclude that "it's still a frypan - it still cooks", so it's still fit for purpose? Instinctively, I feel that I paid for a "premium" pan but ended up with nothing particularly special. But I suspect that if I take it back to Mitre 10 they will simply argue that it's not "broken" so it doesn't need replacing.
I'd be interested to know what others think about this before I (potentially) make a fool of myself.
