Please help whizzes Im getting to old to be smart, no fish oil either :-)

Well, adding site:.trademe.co.nz to the Google search will limit your results to that domain only, and then you can put whatever other terms you need.

Edit: Like this.

Hey Tealeaf,

I'm currently looking at purchasing a car from Trade me atm, and I've noticed that sometimes cars are listed as 'imported' when they're actually not.  I think this is because it's up to the seller to select from a drop down menu when they place the listing, so if a car has had multiple owners, then they might not necessarily know if it's imported or NZ new.. or they might misunderstand what this means and just put down 'imported' by default - as all cars in NZ are imported.

I've been looking at cars, and if they have a licence plate, then i bang that into Carjam for the free basic report and that will usually tell you if it's nz new or imported.

also in the advanced search throw "nz new" including the quote marks and it seems to weed a lot of the imports out

It gets confusing because virtually all cars are imported at some point.

"NZ New" can mean it was new here first.

I've also seen it used to mean this is when it was first sold in NZ.....but it was first sold elsewhere. As in "2012 Japan - 2 owners - NZ New in 2014 with one owner"

So searching on this may not be very useful as the same term is used in opposite meanings often enough to be confusing....and rendering it less useful.

The basic carjam reports also say if the vehicle has been registered overseas also.

Certainly TM search is poor.

Another example is property: I require a certain minimum section size yet that is one criteria I cannot search on.

Yes thats what I do in advanced, but it so damn inconsistent. ive found cars that have not shown up with this search. hence the question.

Trademe is no Ebay sadly, why we never got Ebay while I was overseas saddens me.

Two for me;

One is that engine sizes aren't specific enough.
Two is that if you're looking at a range of series, eg BMW 3 series, you have to specify the model. (might be a bit harder to change)

I always thought "NZ New" meant it is a brand new car, and for the NZ market.  Whereas "First NZ Owner" meant it was an imported car that wasnt new.   Key difference being is the headunit/computer etc would all be in english and setup for NZ, where others could all be in Japanese.

so yeah, i'd probably get that wrong in the drop down when selling a car.

Aren't some of the fields auto populated upon entering your Licence Plate details anyhow?

My killer with them is they don't allow for tick boxes in the Advanced Search.

I've given up requesting this from them.  I've emailed them and been complaining about this for quite some time...

For me in Palmerston North, when searching for my next car I want to see results from my particular requirements AND in all the surrounding areas, such as Wanganui, Napier, Masterton, Wellington and Palmerston North.  However, these muppets don't allow for that option, so I end up having to setup the same search criteria in 5 favourites, and then receive 5 different alert emails each day.

Would be so easy to fix.

I rarely write to TM, but I made a suggestion long ago that got ignored...

With motorcycles, the search results show "include ORCs" or "doesn't include ORCs", but there should be a way when searching to tick which one you are looking for.

I find it hugely annoying looking through motorcycles and having to see farm bikes and dirt bikes, and a lot of bikes are on hold or need things for a wof, I just want to search for bikes ready to ride away.

The advertised for a UX designer a while back, i sent an email, being exactly that and having worked for very large companies for the last 20 years expected a reply. Nothing.

The search engine is just too limiting and ambiguous. Not only this, say you set a car price $7500, you get cars at $15k, whats with that TM.

Ebay doesnt look pretty but its blimmin useful.
