Been weighing up places I can relocate and work in, probably my last move given age.

Unfortunately the age thing strips my Merit points, I need 30 to even apply and I have only 28. The only way to increase that is magically improve my English to the highest level or to get a sponsor of $177k+ US salary. Im not sure if there are any hidden ways to gain more points?

There is the green card lottery, but thats ages away and unlikely.

Pretty much, short of marrying an American. Pretty much the only US Visa I know of which does not require meeting merit points is the E3 Visa, only available to Australian citizens (however it still requires prospective employment in a skilled category)

The lottery thing is legit. I can't imagine that there any huges numbers of applicants from NZ wanting to go to the USA right now, so give it a try.

Just bear in mind if you "win" the Diversity Visa, you will have to interview with an immigration officer and show that you have an actual plan for how you intend to settle and support yourself, including looking for employment and paying living expenses until you get there. If you walk in with no clue what you are going to do, they will decline to issue you a visa.

If only it was that easy to find someone legit.

I was stupid not to apply for Aus Citz, regret that now. In saying that Im not sure the e-3 would be any easier.

I will do the lottery, but its application are in October and will be for 2024.

I was hoping there was some way to earn extra visa points but it looks like Im she out of luck. Unless I went and did executive work, shudder, middle management is worse but anything outside srategic I hate dealing with other peoples personal lives. I just dont see it being feasible to earn the $177k+ given I hate the kind of Exec roles that earn that much. The only other option is improving my English to the highest level possible, thats not going to happen.

Seems Ive left this lifetime a bit late. It does seem canada is much easier and Vancovuer is right above the areas of the US I would like to live, Just a thought......

Canadians also generally do not require a Visa to enter the US... just saying.

It is certainly an interesting way to resolve it via proxy. I will have to find the appropriate canadian visa, I just know last time I looked it seemed easier.

Can you not buy residency?

A lot of countries offer it - we are considering it for Malta in a few years.

Great choice Malta. It does get small quick but access to so many places. I thought we NZ citizens had access to Malta, for work, but then not everyone wants to work if its for semi retirement etc.

I think its $1m? which really isnt too bad given you are buying a business.

I have the asset value no problem but it is all tied into long term projects (10 years). Shame I cannot borrow against that and use borrowings to buy my way in.

I did this, and apparently it's quite easy for me to get into the US as a result. My boys have dual citizenship, by default.

I oddly thought I would end up with a US lady but never happened. I dont think it would be easy to find a wife now and say hey I want to live there so I can get a visa haha.

I gave up on the US, although if I do a masters in a US college it might just sneak me in. Not sure if any of the good schools offer online MBA's or Masters in PM etc.

In the mean time Im sussing out Vancouver. The thing is finding sponsored jobs. I tried linkedin but its not the easiest. I then tried to find dedicated websites but they were all Green Card/US focussed.

Im not in a hurry now, just waiting for the world to get ahead of the virus, via whichever means :-).

But if anyone knows of the best site for finding sponsored jobs in Canada I would appreciate that. cheers all
