Something a bit more "out there"...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Max_Headroom_signal_hijacking

I found out about this (for the first time) today. Although I doubt anyone on here saw it live - unless you happened to be living in Chicago in 1987 - it strikes me as crazy that someone would go to all that effort, not to mention the expense - of doing this for 90 seconds. And it's a weird video...no political message, no marketing message, just some weird guy dressed up as Max Headroom talking weird crap.

Has anything like this ever happened on New Zealand television?

Not in NZ, but in the US Ben Richards overrode a broadcast by Damon Killian to prove that he was innocent of trumped-up charges against him. There was even a documentary made about it in the late 80s.

That was the Schwarzenegger movie The Running Man 😀 (one of Arnie's more under-rated movies, IMO).

In the early days of cable TV in Amsterdam, pirate hackers discovered they could easily break into the signal using modified VCRs. For a time they had a field day transmitting films and porn, mostly late at night. Eventually the competition between different groups degenerated into shouting matches and threats on the air before the cable company figured out how to block them. It was an amusing time in more ways than one.

Not TV, but radio.
many years back, early morning DJ compalined how low his pay was .
He then walked out with the record stuck in the centre going click click click . No one else there to put another record on.
