Moved to a new place. Had new wool carpet installed. Bought a new LG stick vacuum cleaner.

Not impressed. It goes for 5 minutes and then I have to spend 15 minutes unclogging the stick and the container before it will work again.

Can anybody recommend an excellent non-stick vacuum for use on wool carpets. Not a Dyson please.

Best one we have had (and still have) is a Miele C3 cat and dog plug in. We have a small Dyson cordless that is awesome, but we only use that for quick maintenance cleans in between.

Sadly you have discovered the annoying part of having wool carpets, they shed like mad, particularly when new. Some never stop. Unsure any vacuum is immune to needing regular emptying in that situation, something like a more traditional plug in would have larger container capacity so may reduce that a bit. While I love the idea of wool, I would never choose to have it again.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

I have a Miele C3. Can recommend this as its been 5 years since I bought it ( under $500). Very good suction but you need to buy the bags and the filter.
I dont think this model is now available and the closest is the C3 Family all rounder.

If you have cats and dogs Miele C3 Cat and Dog was recommended.

I have a Miele C3 Complete I believe. Section isn't an issue and it's otherwise a good vacuum - but to be completely honest it's nothing amazing for the $700 or so it was, it's just another vacuum with a HEPA filter. Lives under the house now

For convenience I have a Samsung Jet 90 that can also hot swap batteries. Sucks well enough and the convenience means it gets used for what the robot can't get.

I know your pain.

We had a Feltex wool carpet down for 30 years and it never stopped shedding wool. No vacuum cleaner could cope (wired or Dyson V8 Animal cordless).

In the last month we have had a new 100% wool Feltex carpet laid in several rooms, and bought the Shark Powerdetect Stick Vac and Bin. Model IP3251ANZ.

It empties itself when placed on the stand.

Our observations are:

1) Empty it often (via automatic system). Otherwise, you will have to take it apart.

2) We can only get (about) 3-4 empties before the box is full of carpet fluff.

3) We use the lowest suction setting.

4) Emptying the box is far easier and cleaner than emptying a Dyson.

5) I think Dyson's (I don't know about the super expensive ones) are rubbish and would never, ever buy another. I have 2 cordless Dysons, both V8's.

6) We are pleased (as you can be, bearing in mind the limitations) with the Shark. It also vacuums in the forward and backwards motion.

7) I think the battery run time is 27 minutes, but have never put it to the test.

Miele cat and dog. Although rotating heads are not recommended for somewool carpets

Another Miele C3 complete cat & dog user here. The handle has a small metal strip in it that prevents static electricity from building up as you use it.

They're not cheap vacuums, but man do they work well. I prefer bagged vacuums over bagless. Less suction loss over the long-term.

I bought it based on my parents also having the same one and seeing how good it was.

A second-hand Miele could be a goer if you want to bring the price down a bit. I got a Miele Complete C3 Turbo PowerLine for $150 off Trade Me a year or two ago.

Being able to adjust the speed has been great when vacuuming fluffy rugs.

Miele S424i electronic, former flagship and test winner from 1997. You can keep everything „mega-giga-hyper modern“ that came after it. The robust thing is still like new, quiet and the hoover bags, dust filters and spare parts are still available (even if they are a bit more expensive than others). I had to replace the carbon brushes of the motor once.

Another Miele C3 user here, absolute work horse, had it for over 6 years and it hasn’t missed a beat. Yes, it’s bagged, but unless you’re spending over a grand on a cordless stick vacuum, then I think you’re wasting your time/$$$.

It’s also the non-pet version, but still does a great job on carpet and dog hair.

my parents spent 1k on a Miele stick and it is ok, but nowhere near as good as a conventional one and you have to keep emptying it.

Yet another Miele C3 Cat n Dog user here. Had ours for 8 or 9 years now and it hasn't skipped a beat. Works well on our woolen carpets. Suction adjust up button is in need of fixing but otherwise it's worked a treat. Especially important when you have a labrador that sheds its own weight in fur what seems like every second day 😂
