As a follow on from, Pope Francis has passed away topic, I have started this new topic.

Why Pizzaballa, Jerusalem’s first cardinal and an advocate for peace, could be a long-shot contender for pope

The candidate's statement, which was made two weeks before Pope Francis passed away, really struck a chord with me philosophically and gave me hope, for the Catholic Church's modernisation as I read the article.

“Every man of faith has questions, including myself,” Pizzaballa said in an interview less than two weeks before Pope Francis’ death. “You are so frustrated from the situation, and you ask, ‘Where are you?’ to God. ‘Where are you?’ Then I come to myself and I understand the question should be, ‘Where is man now? What have we done with our humanity?’”

We cannot consider God guilty of what we are doing,” he said.

I am C of E by birth and education, I am Agnostic now. But the above statement gives me hope for the Catholic Church and the continuous progression of Pope Francis policies to bring change to the Catholic Church.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

According to John Oliver, Pizzaballa literally means ‘pizza dance’. You can imagine the fun Oliver had with that.

After all the global elections where you fear populists winning, at least we have an election where the result doesn't make any real difference. Unless he restarts the Spanish Inquisition, nobody would expect that.

Hopefully the shareholders appoint someone who will move the company forward and ensure security is maintained.

not often you see a company and its shareholders use a very public exposes process to  select a new CEO.

eitherway, I’ll keep my Pay Pal account open….

wait what…

I would've voted for Ralph Feinnes or Stanley Tucci, both seem like really nice guys. Always been skeptical of John Lithgow, though. He didn't notice that Chandra disabled the calculator that time; what sort of engineer is he even. But I'll admit the twist at the end I will not see coming.

Well he auditioned for the part or at least tried on the costume. By choosing another American the Cardinals are telling Trump it wasn't nationality that was against him 🤭

A good choice from the look it and only 69. So he could be pope for some time which shows the direction they want to go in.

I thought the US Pope might be off the table given current USA issues. Or he is in to try to have some possible influence?  Or.. he is just the right guy for the job, on merit

Don't forget the one who didn't make it past 65. Also reputed to have liberal inclinations.

Glad they choose someone quickly, and hopefully, he is around for a long period of time, as I tired of this religious sect of dubious moral standing crowding out my newsfeed.

Just as there have been ‘antipopes’ in history, this time they probably need a kind of religious ‘counter-president’ for what lies ahead for the USA. You know: „God was here before the Marine Corps, … but this time, your ass belongs to Jesus!“ 😁😉

watched a video where they interviewed his older brother. when Leo was in primary school an old lady told him he'd be the first American pope. Leo then went on to be a missionary, mainly in Peru?

later the brother was giving interview in the house and missed a few calls on his ipad, then returned call to the Pope who immediately answered with "Bro, why didn't you answer my call?" (they call each other every day)
