This is really another topic subject, but if we want greater assistance from the police we need to be prepared to have tax increases to fund it. As for empowering the public more, no absolutely no.

- less empowerment to public
- more power for police, more police
- more military
- more power for government (surveillance)
- lets tax people to pay for it all

There is a name for such societies.

Ok I'm going to assume the image of animal injury may have been disturbing to some and on that basis there should have been a warning and click required before viewing. Question: Is this an arrow or a bolt?

I would like to add a story to this , This is why my perception of the police are they think they can do what they want when they want to.

2 years ago I put my car into the delaers to get a warrant and they found something that needed doing and car would not be ready until following day. I worked night shift at the time and had to walk to work at 11pm at night.

I was walking along the foot path when a car pulled up and 3 guys get out and jumped me and pushed me to the ground. At this stage I thought I was being mugged and god only knows what was going to happen so to say the least I was shi*ing myself.

Next I am being pulled up and pushed up against a power box that was on the footpath. They start asking my name and what am I doing and that they are the police. I notice these guys are in uniform but just pants and tops but with large overcoats.

They had come out of an unmarked car and apart from the the blue shirt with police insignia on you would not really have known they were police. I asked for identification to which I was told to shut the f*uck up.

They asked what I was doing to which I said I was walking to work they then asked my name which I heard somebody asking on a radio for a check on my name.

I got briefly told by one of them that they were looking for a burglar and they thought I was him and to to piss off as I was not who they were looking for.

I got to work and was in a pretty angry state to be quite honest, the next day I rung the police station to make a complaint where I told my story I was told to really consider if I wanted to make a complaint over something so trivial and to ring back the next day if I still wanted to make a complaint.

I didn't ring back but I should have and now my perception of police has changed a great deal for the worse.

I know people will say why did you not ring back and make an official complaint and to be honest the way I was treated by them I felt that there may be repercussions against me if I went ahead with the complaint.

I did not do anything wrong and did not deserve to be treated like that in the way that I was treated and intimidated. It came across like they could just do what they wanted when they wanted to and because of me that's exactly what I let them do.

Seriously, you should have put a complaint in with the IPCA. That sort of stuff needs to be stopped before it starts. If the police won't respect the law, how the heck can they expect the public to?

Sounds about the point I'd be calling an after hours number and demanding to speak to an area/district commander so they can have their behind handed to them by their boss along with the formal complaint.

In saying that I seen police officers and staff in quite a ranger of ranks detail with all sorts of things some in ways they should be awarded for and others they should have been fired on the spot.

As with all positions of power there are good ones and terrible ones.

Just btw Independent Police Complaints Authority (IPCA) has an online complaint submission form.
