Email I just got:

Due to the costs associated with Visa transactions, beginning 1 November 2021, Amazon will apply a 0.5% surcharge to purchases made using Visa credit cards on Amazon.com.au. You can avoid the surcharge by using any debit card, Zip, or any non-Visa credit card like a Mastercard, Amex, or UnionPay card. Additionally, we are working to add more, faster and cheaper payment options for customers.

Made my first "in stock" item order on Monday 23rd; charged Monday 30th, shipped Tuesday 31st and arrived in Dunedin on the 2nd September (today).

Came from New South Wales so it might sit in the shed for a few months before I open the box...

They've completely stoped accepting Visa in the UK, as you're not allowed to pass on CC fees there.

I wonder if some retailers didn't know the NZ access to Amazon was coming. I ordered something on the day this was announced and got it here three days later. Looking at the store almost five months later I see some of the same items are now marked as "Not shipping to your location".

Just got a Black Friday email   from Amazon AU. So much for shipping to NZ  I just looked up a A52 5G Smart S View Wallet Cover  in white. Samsung sells the black only in NZ and the ones on Trademe come from Ozz with a humongous price and  shipping cost.   Clicked on the item on Amazon AU and get .

"This item cannot be shipped to your selected delivery location. Please choose a different delivery location."

Wanted to get the wife a different colored one to black so we don't get the phones mixed up..

Edit:  Update.  Just ordered it from Amazon US should be here in 10 days. NZ$68 shipped.

Quite a few things ship from Amazon AU quickly and for low shipping. General household items, kitchen, bike related, etc, no problems. Could be tech is more heavily restricted.

Same experience here, number of items no longer ship, tech items are the most effected.

There are a lot of imperial measurement items that have very high reviews, clearly based on the .com site, as I'm sure the Aussies would want to same metric items we do. I've almost bought them a few times, looked closer at the image, reviews or QnA and found they're useless for my kitchen.

Got a Garmin Fenix 6 sapphire last week, ordered it Sunday night and it was delivered Tuesday morning and it was $60 cheaper than getting it 10% off at rebel by price matching with Harvey norman.

Has anyone made a purchase over AUD$1000 and made sense of the Amazon AU 'Import Fee Deposit' amount?

I have made a few purchases under AUD$1000 and when going to check out with a New Zealand delivery address, the price has AU GST removed (10%), freight added and NZ GST (15%) added as it should be.

I tried the same with a Nikon Z5 body with a price of AUS$1733.08. In this case AU GST is not removed (confirmed by using an Australian address for the same item) and the 'Import Fee Deposit' is calculated at $469.48. That is 27% of the purchase price.

Checked NZ customs duty calculator and only 15% GST is chargeable for a camera plus maybe a fee which looks like it is $30-40.

So are Amazon AU are charging AU GST and NZ GST plus another 12% in mystery fees for purchases over $1000?

The same camera is a very similar price although out of stock on B & H Photo and they are charging a lot less in import tax. It works out very close to the correct 15% there.

I tried to contact Amazon on chat and didn't get a definitive answer other than they may refund the fee deposit if it was less than charged but didn't appear to say anything about the other 10% AU GST.

With all this added, this price does still work out cheaper than local retail.
