DjShadow:

Went for a lunchtime walk and found the IKEA pop-up next to Te Papa in Wellington, nothing for sale but had a few things setup like a small kitchen and some bookshelves. Handed over my details for their mailing lists and got a free "Frakta" out of it.

Shipping sounds reasonable for big items, for book shelving they said $89 which gets the item carried into your home. There is a cheaper option if you pick up from a depot near Wellington Railway Station.

A pity our big supermarkets don't give these sorts of bags out free considering their profits. The ikea bags are far better bags  for shopping than those small thin ones they sell, and you can just wipe them out, unlike the supermarket ones..

The supermarkets seem to like to get the ones that pretend that they are fabric because ignorant people think that its not just plastic.

But it's gone quiet here. Where has all the excitement gone? 😎

By the way, I'm going to Ikea today to get a few things for the kitchen, e.g. a stainless steel replacement pan for €13 (~NZ$25) to try out carefully. The birthday voucher that Ikea sends me every year and has been lying around for a while needs to be redeemed before it expires. 😁

Tell me if they still sell the whisk set, the small SS whisk with an L shape. I haven’t seen it here and last trip I got one from Australia. and happy belated birthday.

Thanks.

The only L-shaped whisk I could find is made of tough plastic and goes by the name of FULLÄNDAD. However, it is not available either online or in shops, which suggests that it is a discontinued item. The German word for whisk is ‘Schneebesen’ (literally: snow broom 😁, if you like to search by your own at ikea.de).

Was there a queue? I went yesterday and the queue was massive so understandably they held an overflow queue outside the main restautant area. It looked like they had lots of seats BUT the issue was really more to do with processing orders. They ended up letting people in groups of 20s so we could queue up in another queue inside and order from the self-service terminals. One big issue seemed to me that people took their damn time choosing what to order! We waited for a good 5mins for a 8x groups of people to order from their 8x terminals. After that it was another 5mins wait for the food to be served and picked up.

Not ideal but I can't see how they can fix it without making the restaurant 5x the size for a short period of time. IKEAs I've been too overseas normally only have a few handful of people pop into the restaurant so the design is obviously optimised for low-flow and not the high-flow they're seeing here in Sylvia Park currently.

Note you can also buy the meatballs at the end of the maze just after where you pick up the flat packs. If you just want a try of the meatballs you can buy some and cook at home. I did and it was delicious! You can also buy the jam as well to take home.

BTW I tried the NZ fish and it wasn't anything to write home about. It came with peas which I didn't eat -- but I normally do eat the peas with the meatballs.

The thai beef salad is small and not great. The meat didn't look anything like beef TBH. Really not sure why they're offering that -- I can only assume it's a "We offer that everywhere" sort of thing.

I'd recommend meatballs and the garlic bread only from what I have tried so far.

Nope that’s not it. I have that one in Green. It’s the stainless steel one that’s a bit smaller but same shape I was after. Brilliant for making sauces as it keeps scraping the bottom of the pot.

Exactly. And both the plastic and stainless steel ones are no longer available here – in response to his question.

Got to say I am a bit underwhelmed by some of their stuff and don’t think the prices are that great, although it is good that the prices are similar to Australia’s when you consider NZ has higher sales tax. . Some of the things such draining board for the sink looks good, but they only come in green. So many things come in single odd colours or white. I like greys and blacks for plastic things say they don’t yellow

I was wanting to get the ikea PS cabinet. In red. But they only have it in a gross looking creamish white colour.

I’m still waiting for the tracking on my click and collect order (to Christchurch), to update.

ordered 6th December and it’s still on “order received” and yet to move to “packing and sending”.

  • the system gave me pick up options starting from 19th December, so I booked 19th December…..that’s this Friday!

I’ll give them another day before I ask them….”is this gone into oblivion or are you just behind workloads…..or dare I say sold me something that’s out of stock at the time of purchase “.

All I’m getting is a very small flat pack and a few other minor items that would fit in a standard sized light weight (sub 5kg), courier carton.
