The problem for The Herald is that they believe that producing one or two decent stories a week plus a whole lot of low quality garbage is going to get paying subscribers. However, I find The Guardian with its begging message at the end of each story almost as annoying.

For me, its not every premium story, maybe its random, and annoyingly inconsistent. Also annoying is that when I go to one of these pages and click back just loads the same article again, with that stupid message again. Rinse, repeat. Have to click back a few times quickly to actually go back. Great way to sell your product.

There are easy ways to circumvent this if it matters to you.

Ahhhh - sure they have, according to an unnamed spokesperson from one of these sites. I reckon it's lies, and I reckon it's very very easy to know why they'd lie. Congrats to Stuff for publishing unverified and unverifiable abject BS to serve as great free advertising for a couple of companies offering services for which perhaps the world would be a better place without.

OK. Makes sense if you believe the sites are what the article claims - an innocuous way for wealthy "mature" men to shower gifts on young women in return for meeting with the goal of "companionship". I mean what could possibly go wrong?

Out of the claimed 87,000 "sugar babies", Stuff claims that "some" say that the relationships touted on the websites "are a far cry from the grim and often dangerous reality". Oops - you need to read that paragraph twice - it seems to be suggesting that the answer's probably yes.

(wonders if the article author - I won't dignify them by saying "journalist" - bothered to take a look at the sites. Took me about a minute to find to my horror that "STD dating" is a thing, based on the delusion that if you're positive for some STD, then you're not at risk from "catching the same" STD. It would be nice if that was true - but it isn't - it's dangerously wrong, as there are a multitude of strains of the same STDs, some untreatable/resistant etc.)

Oh dear - a headline appears to have escaped from Murdoch's horrific UK tabloid empire and arrived in NZ.

FWIW, there's a 99.99% chance that the asteroid won't hit Earth, and even if it did, very unlikely it would cause any harm to humanity.

It's 40m across - about the same size as the towering statue of Jesus Christ that overlooks Rio de Janiero.

When I think of the size of something potentially dangerous, it's a great idea to refer to comparison with religious icons, such as "a man-eating great white shark - about the same size as Michelangelo's David - spotted off the coast of WA".

Apparently the NZD has significantly increased in value (or the GBP plummeted) in the space of 11 paragraphs. Except, of course, it hasn't; we've just randomly switched over to USD without any indication.
