Nope. It is of military origin and usually means something is dead - it's a bit sexist as it means a female body will float with belly up, while male bodies float with belly down.

FUBAR (farked up beyond all repair) is an acronym. Tits up was not - that acronym came after to jest/justify it. Just look at one always being used all caps and the other not.

FUBAR I knew.

Was just about to post on the same topic. Just saw this headline on Stuff, Wastewater heads up river. Looks like it goes to the same article.

I thought anything flowing in a river flowed downstream. Up river to me, means upstream from where I am.

And this is why I'm glad I have rainwater tanks on my house. As the water intake for the pipeline that feeds part of Aucklands water supply would be downstream of that spillage. Yes I know that the treatment plant would be able to clean the water just fine.

But it still makes me feel better having my own tank supply.

Being a gay man myself with a 38 year relationship under our belts. There are two ways we can call each other 'faggots'; the fun joking way and the insulting way. It is all in the context, tone and facial expression. But 99% of the time the term 'faggot' coming from a non-gay person is usually insulting.

Yes I agree with you, that it is not homophobia, that it is just being an angry a/hole who has anger management issues.

Stuff needs to pull their 'sensationalist woolly heads' in. The headline in itself is almost homophobic. It is certainly biased.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.
