Geektastic: I think if you live in Europe it's a matter of some concern, especially to those of us who grew up with thousands of Russian tanks sitting 2 hours away.

Here, it is at least a reminder that elsewhere there are very real and serious concerns over and above playing Baby Shark on the front lawns of Parliament! 😎

I think I live in Europe ;-) and the fact that the Ukrainians themselves are making less of a fuss than the West is the real cause for concern for me.

They're probably used to it by now...

That's because the Ukrainians understand what's going on, while a lot of the west, and in particular the US, don't.

To see what's at stake, you need to look at things from the Russian point of view. Consider this: In 2014, the legitimately-elected Prime Minister of Canada is overthrown in a Russian-backed coup and forced to flee to the US. In the following years, Canada, under its new PM, makes repeated moves to join the Russian CSTO, and station Russian troops, heavy armour, and missiles, in Canada right next to the US border. How the US would react to that?

Now substitute "Ukraine" for "Canada" and "Russia" for "US", which is what actually happened.

There's no way a parallel like that can be drawn.

Macca's penny pitching change in policy of moving from free coffee for Gold Card holders to charging $2 whereas it's still free at BK.

Isn't the McDonald's an McCafé coffee vs filter coffee at BK, and can't you switch your drink for a coffee for more or less free at those places anyway?

I think they can do what they want because the grandkids will still want to go there for the playground and happy meals!

Geektastic: If I move money from one bank to another in the week it is usually no more than an hour or so before it shows.

If I do it at the weekend........

Why? Have the computers gone to the garden centre?

7-day settlement isn't a thing here yet.

Settlement Before Interchange is the reason that you get the almost-instantaneous transfer during the week, but SBI is generally only a thing from Mon-Fri.

Went to get some new (smart) LED downlights from Bunnings last Thursday.  Went in store and they only had one on the shelf, and despite stock levels showing 20+, no others could be found.  Ditto for a double-gang smart switch.  So I went online and put an order in for click and collect (hoping they might be able to find the stock that way), but no.  They requested stock from another store, and offered to deliver it for free.

Went back to Bunnings on Saturday for another thing - walked past the smart home cabinets and see that they have found all the stock they couldn't find before.  Meanwhile, my online order is still showing as "waiting for pickup"...

My home PC randomly locking up and no clue as to what's causing it.  The mouse pointer is still movable for a while at least and I can sometimes close one or two frozen programs but nothing else.  I suspect it might be media content on websites including adverts causing problems with the second hand video card or the M2 SSD on its way out.  Possibly the latter as nothing is ever written to the windows even logs.  HDD light keeps intermittently blinking when it's locked up.

Seems to have started after one of the last windows 11 updates that included some enhancements to Edge.

When using RDS from Windows via a web browser, CTR W closes the tab so yep, a pita.

Several other shortcuts are also problematic like CTR T , CTR N etc which are picked up by the host OS rather than the remote one.

In Bunnings' defence, they've also shown extraordinary levels of service in the past. During the level 4 I needed to get some replacement parts and ordered them (for delivery) from the local store. Due to the long lag between placing orders and fulfilment some of them items went out of stock locally, so the order was split and fulfilled by various other stores as they tried to find stock that could be shipped. One of them, after tracking around several other stores, ended up being fulfilled by a store in Petone, nowhere near where I am.

Well depends. When I lived in England, money coming off my debit card didn't show as being spent straight away. I found that odd.
And the weekend delays will more or less be AML related ultimately, even if it's a small amount.
