Geektastic:

Trade Me fees.

They have reached stratospheric levels - I sold some expensive binoculars and the fees were not far off 10%!

Yet you keep using them.

Capitalism is a wonderful thing.

Still better than ebay, and did using trademe let you get more than 10% higher than selling the same item elsewhere like facebook marketplace, where is is free (for now) but full of crap and a dysfunctional mess?

What alternative is there? eBay doesn't work here.

I got to the point where I can't be bothered selling stuff. I give stuff away I have no further use for, except big items like cars etc I just trade them in.

This. I can't be bothered with TradeMe or things like Facebook Marketplace. It's not worth the hassle or the horrendous fees IMO.

Anything worth selling (tech) will get posted on the Offers & Wanted forum here, and offered to family and friends, and that's it. Everything else can get donated or freecycled/recycled/binned TBH.

I attended two meetings that was unnecessary, utterly useless. (and was during our lunchtime)

The first meeting I attended was with a vendor, and about 6 of his associates. Everyone was working from home had their camera turned on. I did not.

They asked me why I didn't have my camera turned on, and I told them I usually don't. They seemed shocked, as it was their company's policy. I told them "well I'm glad I don't work for your company" which got a good laugh.

Second meeting was an internal recurring meeting to review what we had done in the last two weeks.

The organizer, who's not a manager, who's sole job is running these meetings, who probably earns more than I do, made everyone go onto a web site.

This took 15 minutes, as he had to explain how to register and sign on.

The first web page had emojis where we were supposed to indicate our mood. Even though I was not in a good mood, I put a "smiley" face so I wouldn't be pestered.

The web page, instead of having a "Next" button, had a blue button that said "Finished." It changed color from blue to green when you clicked it, but otherwise the text was unchanged. If you clicked it it would toggle between blue and green.

That caused great confusion throughout the attendees, until it was realized that until everyones "Finished" was green (not blue), no one could move forward. It would automatically jump to the next screen when the last person got a green button. This took about 10 minutes to figure out.

The second screen asked us for ideas. It was set up to be anonymous.

I didn't have any ideas, having just started, so I click "next."

The organizer then immediately pressed me several times on why I didn't have any ideas. I told him I just started. He kept pressing me I gave him an annoyed response.

After 10 minutes, we had to do an "anonymous" vote on each idea submitted.

Except it wasn't anonymous because after everyone voted, the organizer then asked each person what they voted on.

Then the only person who made a negative comment was raked over the coals for the remaining of the meeting. He is also the only irreplaceable invaluable worker.

What a stupid, stupid hour-long meeting.

Well it least it's only once every two weeks,

... keep it turned off so you can't see me reading Geekzone while pretending to be part of your meeting.

Isn't that the main reason for keeping your camera off? You also have to be careful not to type too loudly.

Another plus one for you both. We use neighbourly to offer stuff for free that tbh is just too much hassle to sell. It's funny how when you offer something for free people can come and collect very quickly.

Behodar:

Two pieces of software that I use have recently been updated.

The release notes for one are detailed, and explain exactly what's new and what's been fixed. If printed, they come to 28 A4 pages. On top of that, there are a few instances of "for more details, see this other document". In short, you know precisely what you're getting from the update.

On the other hand, the complete release notes for the other product are quoted below.

Bug fixes

A month later, another update for the same product (the "Bug fixes" one). The new release notes say "redesigned from the ground up". No specifics are provided. The version number has been increased by 0.01.

Places that send you reminder text messages about appointments. They try and be helpful by saying please call us if you need to change or cancel the appointment and then list their phone number. A lot of them don't include their area code so not exactly helpful when you click on the number to call from your mobile.

If you can't laugh at yourself then you probably shouldn't laugh at others.

When you put your facemask on ...

...and realise it's high time you brushed your teeth.

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?
