I take my dog to the local park every evening for his walk (he is getting on, so the walks are getting smaller).

About a year ago, several sections of the car park were ripped up and poorly replaced. Over the last few months, more and more markings were appearing indicating that something was changing.

Last night I saw the change - tar and a handful of large stones thrown over the entire car park.

I now have a couple of small stone chips, tar over my tyres and shoes, a stone stuck somewhere around my wheels and what made me really angry was that I noticed the dog was limping; turned out he had three stones stuck to his foot.

That really grinds my gears.

Poor road resurfacing work seems to be the norm these days and is such a short-sighted way of saving a few bucks - because ultimately it becomes a bigger problem to fix and re-fix in the future. Do it well, do it once.

Also the use of cheap, poorly-laid chipseal is particularly galling.

Related to the 2 posts above.

I use a public right of way through a WaterCare facility to get to the start of some trails in the Waitakeres in West Auckland. It takes about 50% off the time if I have to go the long way around. After years of neglect the sealed pedestrian pathway had deteriorated badly and after heavy rain some slips had covered part of the walkway through poor retaining practices. Just before Christmas access was blocked with fences and a sign erected saying that remedial work would be undertaken and we should expect it to open in two weeks. Finally!! I walked past a few times and saw a plethora of equipment, machinery and workers there.

Ten weeks later in early March the fence finally came down and we could use the path again. To my dismay on my first walk through I find no retaining work undertaken and a few potholes filled with some hotmix. 10 weeks of no access and what was done would have taken 2 guys less than 4 hours with a wheelbarrow and a shovel.

When a client says they have bought a new laptop and can you set it up only to find it's sporting an A4-9125 and 4Gb RAM. *sigh*

Amazon's useless emails. They tell me that they've dispatched my order, but don't bother to tell me which products. For bonus points, they can't even bother coding up an if statement: "Your item(s) is (are) being sent by NZ POST."

Continuing the rubbish road surface theme, this spot in Palmy highlights this resurfacing rubbish perfectly:

The bottom photo looks like the corner of my street, a week after it was resealed.

Downer came out and looked at it and said they recommended it to be asphalt due to the tight corner and heavy vehicle use but the council chose chip seal. Its been sealed 3 times in 10 years. the asphalt on the next corner down looks like new 4 years from when it was done.

Ads (e.g. Extrendaladder) for "50% off" that don't specify what the original price was.

I'm sure that it's some fantasy figure that the product was never sold for, and this is a way of evading the misleading advertising standard. But surely it's equally misleading even if the original price is not actually stated, and the Commerce Commission or MBIE or Broadcasting Standards or someone should be knocking this on the head?

I'm amazed that the "as seen on TV" ads do not have to give any indication of price - you have to call to be badgered into a sale in order to find out the price.

Bought a couple of watches on TM this week. Nothing expensive, just a couple of Seiko's and Mondaine's. Just watches I like the look of really.

The first one arrives in it's original box, properly wrapped and in an amazing folding box. No issues there.

The next two (from different sellers) arrive in old bubble wrap and a zip lock bag. One had been wrapped in a piece of folded cardboard, sellotaped because the card didn't reach around the watch. It's just beyond words really.

I had a laptop delivered in a plastic supermarket bag once, so I'm thankful for the bubble wrap even if most of the bubbles have been popped, but how hard is it to do this properly ?

If you're a masochist try calling them and ask that simple question.  If you hang up out of exasperation they'll kindly call back.

Picked up new glasses and sunnies yesterday and asking about the cleaner, if it’s just ISO

No, it’s not iso, and showed me a refill bottle that uses butyl cellosolve. If I use iso I’ll void my warranty, apparently.

Purchased a cleaning kit and what’s the ingredient? ISO.
