I got annoyed a while ago when I bought a "brand new" item and it arrived without any of the accessories. I realised afterwards that the description did say that it was the item only, but it had the "new" tag on it and a whole bunch of waffle in the description... I didn't think I'd have to read through it to find that the "brand new" item, well, wasn't.

The use of brand new on there by people selling unwanted gifts etc annoys me, and its not something that trademe seem to want to do anything about. Just like when sellers are listed in manukau but half their crap in the description says it will be 2-3 weeks from their China warehouse. You mean the Alibaba drop shipper I guess.

For people who don't use a dining table, where do you eat something more than a piece of toast or a bowl of cereal? Balancing something on your knee on the sofa is so much more of a hassle than a flat, purpose made surface such as a table.

Buy PJ Wood Folding TV Tray & Snack Table - Natural Online in New Zealand. B01KLQSN6A

To each his own I suppose, but I find a dining table provides room for sauces, salads, bottles of wine and home brew, and all the other essentials.

Lap tray.

I wonder if there's a correlation between people who have children still at home and those who have proper sit-down dinners? Of the ones I know, the ones who have at-the-table dinners do it to eat with their children.

I'm sure there is. Maybe it's just me, but I find having dinner in front of a TV kinda sad in a way, especially if you have kids.

Mrs Gurezaemon is an excellent cook, and I feel that zoning out on a show and not actively enjoying the food doesn't do her efforts justice.

Dinner goes on the plate. all that stuff is sorted in the kitchen where the sauce fridge is. Then carried to my room and eaten at my desk. Dont want to waste space on a dedicated dining table. I have one but it has powertools on it which is a better use for it.

There is, but as they get old enough they would rather not waste time with the family when they could be gaming or programming or whatever.

I'm not sure if there is a /s missing there 😉 but we've never given them the option of vanishing off to their rooms for dinner - they spend enough time holed up in there already, so a set minimal amount of time spent with their boring olds and brothers is just a fact of life for them, and they don't seem to mind it.

You may be able to complain to TM about this, when you select "Brand new" it says something like "original packaging and manuals" which it sounds like it wasn't in this case.

The following text from a weather report on the Weatherwatch site:

All forecasters in the world use public global models from Government forecasters such as from Australia, UK, Japan, USA and Europe.

But in NZ, Government Agency NIWA has commercialised state funded assets so no open data modelling can be used for storms that actually directly hit NZ. NIWA uses these state funded assets for their own internal profiting, which is why we (and others) can’t include NIWA’s commercial-only modelling and instead must use the more reliable overseas modelling that is open access.

Here are three of the globe’s most trusted public weather models and their placement for Fili on Wednesday – we thank these nations for making data available to help better protect New Zealanders.

NIWA take taxpayer-funded material, don't make it available to anyone else, and produce third-rate forecasting (at least as presented by MetService, I'm not sure if that's NIWA, the MetService, or both at fault there) with it. Luckily pretty much every other weather service in the world doesn't do this, so we can get decent weather forecasts.

That should be as new. Brand new means sold by the brand itself, the only one that can sell something brand new is the people that own the brand. Its one of those terms that has been ruined by people using it with no idea what it actually means.

As I understand it, it's more "as supplied by the manufacturer" rather than having to be sold directly. So long as it still has the original shrink-wrap etc. then it can be considered brand new.

When you order something from PBTech in January with an expected Delivery Date of 14 February.

And receive yet another order update simply stating Delivery: Overdue!

No Shit Sherlock!

This after countless different expected delivery updates!

I understand the Supply Chain is seriously screwed up, but the number of missed delivery updates is ridiculous!

Re: table-less dining - we normally eat as a family on the dining table but on the odd occasion I've wanted to catch something on the news I can do so with the plate in one hand and creative use a of a fork in the other.  I can use the knuckle of one finger as a fulcrum on the edge of a plate and cut down with the edge of a fork if required.  Not that my steaks ever get so tough that I can't manage that :p

That in "Oliver Twist", the Artful Dodger's real name alternates between Jack and John, and I can find no explanation for this. Does anyone happen to know what's going on there?

The Artful Dodger's real name is John Dawkins and Dickens often refers to him to as Jack, the common nickname for John.
