Just received the Shipping "Survey" for my Tempest Weather Station that I backed on Kickstarter last year.

Shipping logistics must be a nightmare for them at the moment!

That's why I won't use Unraid. ;-)

Watching the reactions and tears from folks trying my wife's Chilly Sauce made from various chilies including Ghost Chilly, normal Chilly and small black chilies. Apparently it is rather warm.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Handle9: Mrs Handle had PRK (a form of laser eye surgery) on Monday. Today she got through the day without pain killers and her vision is getting clearer. The bandage contacts come out tomorrow so she ( as am I by extension) is very happy.

The first couple of days were pretty unpleasant so it's great to see her coming right and not needing glasses after wearing them for 30 years.

My wife went for her 2 month follow up today. She now has better than 20/20 vision. I'm so very pleased for her.

She also was tested as COVID negative today (just a screening test) so will return to teaching at school this week. It's been 6 months of being at home (4 months of distance learning and 2 months of summer holidays). Our kids will go back as well which they desperately need. It's looking like a pretty great week.

What made her decide? I'm coming up on 40 and have worn/glasses and contacts my whole life. My only concern with corrective surgery is the natural deterioration of vision as I hit this magical age. I'd be annoyed to suddenly have my vision improve (I'm short sighted) only to have to start wearing glasses for reading.

I had cataract surgery only because I had to in order to renew my driver's license. I was short-sighted all my life but it never interfered with anything. I wore glasses to drive and visit the cinema. The rest of the time I was perfectly happy with my blurry vision.

Now I have better than perfect distance vision. I can see individual pine needles on the trees around our house. But I can't see anything at all close up. I need glasses to see the computer. I need stronger glasses to read food labels. I need glasses for everything except driving. I liked it much better the way it was before.

A combination of things. We have talked about it for some years but the stars never aligned.

The surgery here in Dubai is very inexpensive, with excellent clinics. Due to the impact of COVID on their business many clinics had some very attractive promotional offers. The procedure cost around NZD$1400 for both eyes. It was also the start of the summer holidays (my wife is a teacher) and we were unable to travel on holiday and I work from home full time so could support her and deal with the kids.

She was around -2.5 on both eyes so her vision wasn't very good at all. She is absolutely rapt with the result.

Receiving email confirmations from Emirates this week that COVID-related cancelled flights have been approved under their voluntary refund programme.

That's relative for you though isn't it .... or are you actually going to be breaking out the winter woolies?

Midwinter here is magnificent. 19-27 every day with maybe 4 days of rain over 3 months. It's like NZ summer but a bit warmer, less humid and with much much less rain.

The weather is getting better now, it didn't get over 40 degrees until 11am today. This will sound insane but after 2 years in the middle east I find anything under 40 is quite ok and under 35 is "cool".
