This is going to be simultaneously controversial (depending on your perspective) and completely uninteresting, but I love this cover of the Beach Boy's "Don't Worry Baby" by Zed.

Controversial? Well, it's a fair to middling NZ band that had a string of pop hits a while ago now, but never reached the kind of mythical recognition that other NZ bands did (Split Enz, for example).  And the original song is a good but pretty lightweight song by a well-loved pop/rock band that had great success but weren't exactly pioneers of their art.  For the same reasons it's controversial, it's also incredibly dull (a decent song by a good band covered by another good band).

But I enjoy it, and love the increased tempo and slightly rockier sound they added.  I'd pick the cover over the original every day, however good the original is.

Funny you say that about the Beach Boys. I read somewhere that the Beatles always considered them their biggest (artistic at least) rivals and that Sgt Peppers was the Beatles response to Pet Sounds.

I gave Andrew Lynch - guitar for Zed - his very first paying gig. Fourteen years old, I think he was. He & the 3 immensely-talented Ottignon brothers (Matt, 16 on sax; Eden, 14, double bass; & 12 year old keyboard prodigy Aaron) would come into my bar on Friday nights & kick up a freeform jazz storm. I think they got $150 or $200 per gig - not each, that was the band's fee. Because they were underage, the Ottignon's dad had to be present at all times - "unless accompanied by a parent or guardian".

All 4 went on to become respected professional musicians - Aaron in particular. Working out of Berlin now, check out his YouTube channel for innovative, cutting edge jazz in collaboration with some international giants of the scene.

I heard that also on a YT video.

And on the matter of Beatles and Beach Boys (at the risk of going slightly OT) here an interesting video of George Martin remixing God Only Knows with Brian Wilson

My favourite music genre is Progressive House (original underground 90's 2000's Progressive not the overcommercialized garbage now called EDM)

Favourite DJ - John Digweeed (I doubt anyone here has heard of him).

Still love Mr Burke's drums on Blondie - Dreaming.

And that Beatles double A that never got to No 1.
