So we've argued single favourite movie to hell and back. Let's widen it. Name your single favourite piece of music of all time?

Difficulty: if it's an album, name the track; if it's something like a symphony, name the movement.

Nine Inch Nails, Just Like You Imagined from The Fragile.

Album version (relatively low quality - you can get 96/24 FLAC from the NiN store). A live version with a super-amazing guest pianist Mike Garson.

Wow...this is not going to be easy and I am going to have to take quite a long time thinking about this.

Hard to nail it down to one track, depends on mood etc. But I would have to say it is also Nine Inch Nails "And All That Could Have Been", off disc 2 of the deluxe version of the album of the same name.

I think I have the DVD of that - I ripped one live concert from DVD (2 discs) and the 1st disc of another one I have just before we packed everything up into a container for house renovations. I think the one disc I ripped was the first half the And All That Could Have Been concert. That ends with Head Like A Hole. Now I need to finish ripping it!

Back to the Future was the clear choice for best movie, but music is hard.

Somewhat arbitrarily, I picked Billy Joel as my favourite artist, and my favourite song is And So It Goes. Caronavirus has kind of screwed up my plan to see him at Madison Square Garden, but I still hope to be there in the front row one day.

Pink Floyd - Learning to fly, as the song.

Not sure which album would be the favourite.

Favourites change all the time. My music taste is pretty eclectic.

Since you're forcing us to choose just one of all time (bloody hard as others have said!)  I'm going with:

Nirvana - Very Ape

I think it just epitomised that period in my life when I really discovered "music", and the angsty teen I was at the time lol:

"If you ever need anything please don't hesitate
to ask someone else first
I'm too busy acting like I'm not naive.
I've seen it all I was here first"

EDIT: Hmm, on further reflection I regret not going with Sigur Ros - Glósóli

You might enjoy Khruangbin & Hiatus Kaiyote as well. The video you posted came up on my Youtube Music personalized playlist a few weeks back, through listening to those two groups.

My choice could change week to week, day to day in terms of favorite.

For now; Jay Electronica - Exhibit A

Actually, I can answer this. I am surprised. I have very broad musical taste, from classical and opera to country and rock, but my all-time favourite is Gimmie Shelter by the Rolling Stones. The most exciting piece of music I have ever heard.

Heh, not sure I could possibly choose one, though I could narrow it down by saying it's almost certainly something by perhaps 3-4 artists :) There are Songs I would have listened to hundreds or more times.

Having said that, I have been compiling this list and listening though other peoples favourites, an interesting way to discover new music.
