Haven't ordered from Mighty Ape for a while but ordered something the other day because they had the cheapest price and I had a little bit of credit sitting in my account that covered it. This is a new one from the tracking. Shipped but "not available for collection." Whatever that means. Didn't realise it was coming from Australia either.

I hope the new games store "Overkill" picks up where MA are falling over for games at least if not more.

Good to know of its existence! The website's faster, at least...

They're heading to be the last man standing in physical local distribution,

But with next gen PS confirmed as digital only and Helix heavily rumoured to be long term it could all be for naught...

Kogan Group ASX announcement is out today

Mighty Ape gross sales down 14%, revenue 85.6m down 30%, gross profit 26.1m down 23%.

Mighty Ape continued its significant operational reset in FY26 to return the business to profitability. The reset focused on optimising inventory, rationalising unprofitable categories with an expected reduction in revenue, simplifying the cost base and applying elements of the Kogan.com operating model to the New Zealand market.

● Inventory reduced from approximately $21 million to $10 million, creating capacity for fresh and in-demand products.
● Operations ceased at the Christchurch warehouse.
● A One Global Team structure was adopted that delivered further efficiencies.

Together, these initiatives reduced quarterly fixed costs from $4.9 million in 1QFY26 to $3.4 million in 4QFY26, and returned the business to positive Adjusted EBITDA in 4QFY26.

At the same time, Platform-based Sales across Mighty Ape Marketplace, PRIMATE and Mighty Mobile continued to grow, increasing the contribution of higher-margin revenue streams. Combined with the rationalisation of unprofitable categories and completion of low-margin inventory clearance, this contributed to a significant improvement in Gross Margin through FY26.

I would have thought there would have been a much larger drop.

I guess the kogan operating model is to sell nothing that looks desirable.

I would have thought that if they want to "return the business to profitability", then fixing the website would be a priority. It still effectively ignores your search terms and lumps games for all the different systems in together.

At least they have stopped putting long expired listings into google shopping results like they used to. My primate lapsed ages ago and I have had no reason to reactivate it looking at the "deals" they have on offer.

So is it just me (and a weird coincidence) or have others also noticed this... but since the 25th (so a day after the results announcement), I seem to be magically resubscribed to their e-mails.

Very very tempted to do it as a DIA Spam report, but just curious if I'm alone on this before I do.

I am not sure if the DIA actively police spam anymore as their website shows no enforcement documentation since 2023

It is very common for businesses to suddenly start spewing out nuisance emails to customers that they haven't dealt with for many years. As noted above, the Unsolicited Digital Communications Act does not appear to be enforced any more so your best option is to use the Privacy Act to compel them to either declare the purpose for which they are holding information about you, or to delete the information entirely if you do not intend to deal with them again.

So one of my team had ordered a refurbished laptop from an australian third party seller on the platform.

While the outside looked great, after about 3 weeks it stopped charging.

Being a bit of a techie I assumed battery - 6th gen intel machine and all.

Opened it, and something corrosive had been spilt in the machine, and I can only assume thats what has caused the issue.

Probably sat unused in a warehouse for several years until someone bought it.

Now they are stuck between kogan support and the thirdparty seller.

Pretty rubbish, and after another couple of weeks of back and forth I'm going to encourage her to do a credit card chargeback.

I would've started the charge back after first rubbish response from Kogan - with 3rd parties involved, you just go round and round, with each pointing fingers at one another.

Chargeback, return the item, let Kogan and their "trusted" sellers sort it out from there.

Its mighty apes problem to sort out, if you let baboons on your platform then you have to clean up after them. At this stage if they threaten your mighty ape account over a chargeback then I think that would be a net positive since there is nothing worthwhile now.

CokemonZ:

My understanding is that the third-party seller is primarily responsible.

"Sellers are unable to avoid their obligations under the FTA or the CGA by using a third party to make offers or to sell goods and services on their behalf.  Where this occurs, the principal seller will still be considered to be in trade" - https://mccawlewis.co.nz/publications/internet-and-online-traders/ (although it also says that the agent could be potentially liable).

Edit: Also, "Contact the seller through the website or platform" - https://www.consumerprotection.govt.nz/general-help/ways-to-buy-and-pay/online-shopping/what-to-do-if-something-goes-wrong-with-an-online-purchase, which implies that it's the seller, not the website/platform, that's responsible.

Yes - I'd read similar to what Behodar points to. Though Kogan/MA took the money it seems like the third party is actually responsible.

Not too how a chargeback would go in that case.

But if the third party doesn't come to the party, then more aggressive with kogan, then once there is evidence of not coming to the party, chargeback I think.

It's not me, can only offer advice, will update when it's all done and dusted.
