We ordered on 5th and havent heard anything yet.

assume you have the invoice / receipt?
have you got the app? It’s tracked in there…
Right… tried calling contact centre. It was weird i had to confirm if i was calling from a mobile. It was an 09 number I called.
anyhow, automated attendant said there would be an hour delay at least, so hung up and used chat function…. Over an hour later I got a human response….just as well I kept checking…
im starting to think that the curtains don’t match the carpets here…. It’s all flash and hip on the outside, but after 2 years of planning….the execution has been poor.
in the end, the chat agent could see the order was with the team…but couldn’t gurantee it would be picked and sent on time for the scheduled collection on 19th. They offered to choose a new delivery date in Jan…but that’s probally them just trying to shift workload.
see how this pans out…

Yep. We are still on “order received”.

Just to provide a contrasting opinion here.
I ordered on the morning of launch - 00:04 or so when the website was responding (had a change on for work so I was awake anyway). Delivery date was originally set at something unrealistic like a week after order (which was not small; it included a Malm, an Alex or two, and some other miscellaneous furniture).
That date came and went without contact but about a week ago the tracker started moving. Then suddenly, just as I stepped into the shower yesterday, a friendly fellow from Main freight was knocking on my door. After chasing the truck down in an Oodie, I can report pretty much everything* was successfully delivered.
Quality is what you expect - no better or worse than the previous resellers in the country but at a better price. In my mind this makes it compelling - I enjoy furniture assembly so have bought a lot of flat pack in general and think IKEA represents a great price/quality ratio.
*The only thing they forgot was the cheapest item in my order - some cutlery - however after about an hour of waiting post getting through their chatbot, I had a refund (they refused to just reship the missing item due to their dispatch delays) as well as a gift card to compensate me for the shipping.
I guess the issue they have is that big bang launch overwhelming their system. They probably can't really scale it up otherwise they'll be wasting resource once it quietens down and they clear the backlog out. It probably doesn't help that the delivery price is per order not per item, we've looked but already decided the best avenue being in Christchurch is save up the wants and do one big order of everything we need in one hit. $50 on one thing is a lot but over half a dozen items it's pretty cheap.
Looks like New Zealand broke IKEA. They are shutting does customer support to catch up https://www.stuff.co.nz/home-property/360916401/ikea-shuts-down-customer-support-centre-wake-delivery
We had our tracking number come through today. Ordered on opening.

I wonder if the fact that they are a victim of their own success will lead them to open a second DC to fulfil online orders going forward, rather than fast-tracking a second store?

Hopefully both.
Im glad I held out on the order for the kitchen stuff and billys because I doubt they would have arrived before it was back to work time.
Well, today would have been collect day (chch).
status changed this morning to “packing” and a mainfreight tracking issued.
im guessing it will be picked up today and then go the long haul to chch collection point.
sounds promising for a collection next week maybe….

I would expect demand to cool off, the initial demand probably exceeded their expectations. But if they do open a second store I do wonder where it would be. Wellington probably makes most sense and guessing it would be far smaller
I had to go back to IKEA today. On the one hand because of the x-mas duck thing in the photo, and on the other because there was a €20 voucher for purchases over €100, and I want to do some renovations in our kitchen in the new year anyway and wanted to make sure I got the most important ‘almost sold out components and small parts’ in good time. 😎

Probably didn't help that they launched at what is the business shopping period of year, couriers were probably rushed off their feet already, let alone with additional IKEA deliveries.
I used this PC case for my latest Ultra7 build, so it made sense to complement exact this Swedish fractal design with another matching Swedish design: the new PC rolling stand from ikea.

Ikea has started delivering the KAJPLATS matter/thread series here in Germany. I bought a 1521lm LED bulb and will test it out by integrating it into my HomeAssistant in mixed operation with zigbee (hue) dimmer switches (I have both radios, no hubs). The Tradfri (zigbee) products have largely disappeared from the range.
