Receiving email confirmations from Emirates this week that COVID-related cancelled flights have been approved under their voluntary refund programme.

And finding the money in your bank account this morning! WOOHOO!

Don't ask me the details, Himself was in charge of all that.

So the smile was more his than mine 😀

Not really small, I guess, but:

We should have spent August traveling to and around the UK to visit our son. Started booking last November, and everything was booked and paid for well prior to the first lockdown. A combination of bookings via a travel agent, and a few things booked direct by us (Airbnb in Edinburgh, hotel in Brighton, flights to Edinburgh, tours around London).

We managed to get pretty much full refunds on everything, less a little where exchange rates weren't in our favour, and the hotel in Brighton only gave a partial refund as they apparently only managed to re-let the room at a lower rate than we'd booked it at and then took 5% off what was left.

Everything the agent booked for us (primary flights, transfers, accommodation in Doha and London, and tickets to the Edinburgh tattoo) was refunded in full.

The 'free' credit card travel insurance apparently would have covered us (we asked at the beginning of March when Covid was kicking in to gear), but we didn't have to go down that path at all.

I think pretty much everything booked had non-refundable somewhere in the fine print, but everyone (eventually) evolved their policies and we're (of course) very happy indeed. We absolutely thanked all involved.

People often mistake me for an adult because of my age.

Keep calm, and carry on posting.

Ordered few bits from JB Hifi 11.30pm last night (Saturday). Apparently shipped by 10:15 this morning (Sunday). Not bad.

Reading my kids the BFG for the third time (at least) and how quickly they get ready for bed, and are sitting waiting, with the book ready on the right page, in bed, at the desired time, and how much they are enjoying the story. It's one of my favourite parts of my day  as well.

If you're using a BFG to get your kids to go to bed then you need to adopt different parenting methods :-).

A factory reset turning my phone from unusable to ok again.

Android is annoying how it degrades but at least it's back to being ok for a month or two until I get Mrs Handles hand me down.

Building the lego set I got for Father's day with my 6-year-old daughter.  It makes me smile to watch her study the instructions, find the pieces, and assemble it.  We're doing a section of the build every night after dinner (instead of watching TV), and it's so awesome to see her problem-solving skills in action.

My kids (15 & 13) building a small ramp out of spare bits of wood to practice their mountain bike jumps in the garden. Made me smile.

I had some tuna for lunch. Ate it out of the tin while checking email. Set it aside to type a reply. Kitten, who is the kind of opportunist only wild genes can produce, immediately seized its opportunity and licked the tin clean. It then proceeded to lick the remaining tuna off its face by wiping with its paw and licking that. That really made me smile. It is a small kitten.
