Geektastic:

The aesthetically awful way in which they connect heated towel rails in NZ.

I saw a beautifully designed towel rail today with the same hideous bit of white cable hanging out of the bottom. Why on earth they cannot use hidden fixings and cables like they do elsewhere in the world, I have no idea.

Most towels rails are designed to be installed either way I think, it's usually laziness on the part of the sparky that leaves the exposed cable.

Probably on me for not reading all the rules; but the local Countdown has outdoor lockers for click and collect
So on Friday I put in a small click and collect order at Countdown, figuring I would get a code to the locker and be able to get some food without bending the isolation rules too much (stay at home except for exercise - I walked there, so exercise .. right). Anyway, I got the message the food was ready, rocked up to the lockers and asked (from a distance) how I access. The worker filling the locker advised if I didn't get a code that I would have to collect from inside .. I advised I was supposed to be isolating and she just shrugged.

I ended up having to stand in store for 10 minutes waiting for someone to serve me, all while trying to stay away from someone, in order to collect my food.

So how does one get access to the lockers for true contactless pickup? Or should I have paid the $5 for delivery, even though Countdown is 200m down the road?

Trademe's stupid autoselect for listed items. Was looking for what's available in the range of golf umbrellas to replace a lost one and guess where the majority of them are listed?

"Outdoor furniture".

(Specifically, Outdoor, garden & conservatory > Outdoor furniture > Umbrellas & awnings).

You don't. You are supposed to be isolating. You arrange contacless delivery. Why would you go to the supermarket and risk crossing paths with other people?

I had the same problem with New World a couple of years ago when I had a mild sore throat (not covid) and was avoiding other people as a precaution. I thought it was a fair assumption that I would be able to do a contactless pickup but when I got there the lockers were not accessible and no-one was answering the phone. They really need to put a message on their web site saying "please place your order for home delivery if you are isolating as we can't guarantee contactless pickup."

There is quite a busy post on GZ, you select quote and try to reply and when you post you get an error saying too many quotes.  But you didn't add anything - just wanted to retain the quote history. Then I have to painstakingly work out which quote to delete etc.

Staying in Wellington. Check out my AirBnB in the Wellington CBD.  https://www.airbnb.co.nz/h/wellycbd  PM me and mention GZ to get a 15% discount and no AirBnB charges.

I had to put a limit because some people were quoting and quoting and quoting. Sometimes quoting the four or five previous posts, making it hard to follow. That was annoying.

I understand the reason, but sometimes it makes it a real pain to reply to a post without losing context, particularly if there's multiple points in the post you're replying to that each get their own quoted bit. How about a soft vs. hard limit, where you have to confirm you really want to quote that much for a...b levels, and a hard limit at c...z levels? Or a word-count limit, e.g. max( x levels quoting, y words quoted )? Since the problem was that too much was being quoted, this would allow a few levels while forcing people to edit what's quoted down to the relevant parts.

I would have replied to that too but your profanity filters would implode with what I think of the behavior.

Actually I would have thought the plan to click and collect as was originally envisioned by nzkiwiman fitted within the intentions of the isolation requirements and the ability to exercise. The plan was thwarted by the click and collect system not working as expected. There was never any intention of going into a confined space with other people which is as far as I can tell is what isolation is all about.

If you can manage your contact with strangers while out exercising then it should be no problem to mange that contact at the click and collect point where there's outside lockers as there was in this case. It's not as if you have to mingle with other people to do the job, you can pick your moment to do the pick up. Plus pretty well all of the information I've seen suggests there needs to be close contact usually within a confined space for infection to be transmitted. The use of masks in a open space has to be a reasonable and safe option I'd have thought.

I disagree. It is not the spirit of "isolation".

In my case I was expecting to go down there early in the morning (i.e. when not busy), park near the lockers, check no-one else around, sanitise hands, retrieve goods from the locker, then go. Bear in mind that the New World lockers are outdoors.

It seems to me that the supermarkets are setting an expectation that people can perform contactless collection of orders and then giving customers a nasty surprise when they turn up.

When there's a limited number of lockers it wouldn't make sense to waste them on small orders.

Most people should have neighbours that will collect shopping, they'll be needing help themselves soon enough.

Maybe there’s a very good operational reason that’s beyond me - but why would Lotto have a planned 12-ish-hour system-upgrade outage that starts at 7:30 pm on a Saturday - the busiest time on their busiest night of the week when everyone is trying to check their ticket? Why not a Sunday or Monday evening which must be a quieter time? FFS.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.
