More particularly if it's Youshop US, the battery pack will need to be in the equipement and no more than 100Wh per pack and 20Wh per cell. The later 2 are probably no problem unless it's an extended life battery (in which case it could be more than 100Wh), the former sounds to be a problem in your case to me. For Youshop UK (or China) any lithium ion battery is prohibited. Youshop info

So Battery WH aside would this fall into the category of a Stand alone battery and then not be allowed or is it a piece of hardware which just has a battery built into it and therefore would qualify for shipping?

Add your Youshop address to your Amazon account, and then try ordering it with your NZ address: For some items (not all), Amazon will ship directly to NZ once you've added a US address to your account.

Its a piece of hardware with a battery in it, so will be fine.

What was not fine when I asked was a cordless drill kit with 2 batteries and a charger and a drill.

shipito will do it if you use fedex. UPS returned the parcel when I had one with a lipo declared in it, which is strange since they will do lipo from other sellers ok.

That's quite funny because I picked up a Dewalt Drill and Impact Driver kit with two batteries from Amazon via You Shop and didn't have an issue.

After richms mentioned shipito, I decided to try it out. Only the virtual mailbox option consolidates, but their "remove unnecessary packaging" option specifically mentions ditching shoe boxes (and not just the box the shoe box is in).

So far the costs are $10US for signup. The consolidation cost should be $2-4US. Then there's a per-package processing fee, which is $1-2US. So that's $14-16US and whatever postage is. Youshop generally charges me $45NZ to ship a shoe box "repacked", so it just has to pan out to less than $51USD in postage to be a better deal.

Will see how it goes.

It'll be best to ask NZ Post (or whoever you are using) if you have questions. Most airliners which mention them seem to classify power banks as spares rather than batteries in equipment for passengers. See e.g. Cathay Pacific,
EVA Air, Whirpool . Note another thing NZ Post mention, if they do receive a lithium ion battery and can't send it to you (or I think even if they can), they can't send it back either since they lack approval. You either need to arrange for someone to pick it up or let them discard it. So if you to try it, you take the risk if of losing your money regardless of return policy of the shop you buy it from. Sorry that was for alcoholic products (NZ Post FAQ)

Anyway I woudn't be surprised if NZ Post are similar in how they classify power banks, after all one of the reasons for the limits is because shippers often use these passenger airlines and need to obey their regulations. And I would presume if airlines are classifying power banks as spares/not in equipment for passengers, they're going to do the same with cargo companies. But ultimately only NZ Post can say.

BTW, a number of couriers will only accept most lithium ion batteries (including li-pol) from approver senders (except perhaps for those in equipment as we've been discussing), so it isn't that surprising if they won't accept it from a reshipper who may have difficult getting approval due the fact they're shipping stuff they know little about. See e.g. DHL's regulations DHL PDF

Hopefully final edit: It looks like the issue of how to classify Power Banks was one of the many topic of discussion at a recent IATA workshop PDF of presentation. May be things will be clearer sometime in the future.

I have to say though this gives me even more reason to think NZ Post will probably official classify it as not acceptable. Of course the staff checking the parcel may not appreciate this. Then again as some of the earlier responses mention there's always the possibility of getting lucky even with something clearly ~~now~~not allowed. But I don't personally wish to discuss trying to violate shipping regulations.

Guys - I am currently using MYUS as they offer package consolidationm - Mutiple Amazon Orders.

They will ship perfume but there is a handling fee of $25 (IATA regulations blah blah blah)

Looking at Youshop as an aternative for some items as MYUS is by weight.

Official word from NZ Post via Twitter is there are no non Westpac promo codes. Also no update on US parcel consolidation.

BTW, if contacting them via Twitter may be better to use @nzpost rather than @nzpostYouShop (or use both). Nowadays for customer support enquiries, they seem to respond via @nzpost anyway and I'm not sure if they follow the @nzpostYouShop so closely.
