Yes - but the point here is that these guys have listed as a classified on TradeMe - not as an active auction. There is a big difference.

To be fair, the opotst (origional poster of this sub thread) stated that they said "I just want to let the auction run", indicating an auction, not a classified listing.

In the case of the cars/bikes they have been classifieds, I just mistakenly used word "auction" for "listing" when posting.

The reason for that mistake (much like the argument over vehicle registration/licencing) is that phrase is the most common one I hear on TM, as I said I rarely entertain bidding on auctions, and often ask for buynows and get that as a response.

Edited as IlDuce has clarified that they were indeed classifieds and not auctions.

My original response was True - my bad, as I missed that as was thinking of IlDuce previous post and reacting to what BraaiGuy said.

So indeed these were classifieds (which given his previous posts about preferring those over an auction frenzy, stands to reason) - and therefor my original point stands.

BraaiGuy said that TradeMe is not the classifieds - and this is incorrect, and is what I was reacting to. TradeMe carries auctions and classifieds.

The classified listings are just like listing it in the classified section of the newspaper - if you list it at Asking Price of $x, then that is what it is expected to sell for (or lower is haggling goes on). Not, you turn up to buy it and the seller starts asking for more money. If they are listing it at and Asking Price of $x (classified) and then not selling it for that, then they are baiting buyers and maybe they should be reported to TradeMe!

Agreed, but in this case the seller had not listed it as a classified it was an auction:

IlDuce: In 2009 I wanted to buy a specific car. I approached one seller and asked "how much would you like for this, i.e the price your happy to sell it at?"... their response "$1800", my response "I can come over tomorrow or whenever suits, with the $1800 in cash and take it away no questions/dramas"... their response "nah, I'll just wait and see if I get more" !!?? In the end they didn't get more, or even the same, in fact it went for $1400 and thats after dealing with many more people and questions over following 2 weeks.

By the sounds of it there was no buynow price ... And the buyer asked the seller for one ...

Therefore the seller has every right to let the auction run to see if he can get more.

Trademe sure has it's fair share of cr*p quality Chinese imports. Despite the multiple listings saying 'top quality'. Almost not worth the hassle now in my opinion.

There are a few decent business traders who sell for a good price at reasonable or decent quality.

On a side note sometimes I seriously wonder about the management of trademe. There seems to obvious things they could do to improve the site videos on auctions, being able to click on negative when looking at someones feedback instead of scrolling through them all, being able to access feedback for individual products etc.

The feedback should seriously change too in my opinion, sellers should not be able to post feedback. There would be alot more less desirable but more honest feedback if there was no chance for retaliation.

Also there have been several instances when I have found trademe management absolutely mind boggling. Such as when there was no option to list a hardrive bigger than 999 gb. There was a thread on the trademe forum 'in category suggestions' about this with many posters that went for pages and pages and continued for nearly a year. It was like talking to a blank wall (meanwhile 3 and 4 tb hdd's were being created), many people reporting they had contacted trademe with no response. Even top sellers were posting saying they had mentioned the issue at the top sellers meeting because they 'had to try'. Seriously how hard can it be to add an option for a harddrive bigger than 999gb? I can't even begin to understand how it would take so long for them to do something and that is only one example.

Why should a seller not be able to post feedback against someone who has never made contact - or never paid for an item they won!????????? I have had this happen on so many occasions and have spend many, many wasted hours on drop kick losers who bid on something, or they click Buy Now, and then never complete the transactions. Why should the seller not be able to post feedback against those people - who probably far outweigh the dodgy sellers - so that other sellers know not to waste their time on these people?

It is far more reasonable that the seller is able to post feedback than the buyer, IMO.

Oh - definitely. As a Trade Me seller the feedback against me is very important!! I choose my words carefully when leaving feedback, and the words you don't put into feedback can sometimes scream more than the words you do put into the feedback. Or I run by the old adage "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all"...

I also sell on eBay and as a Seller I can definitely still leave feedback, but I think there is a change coming...
