corksta: So OP has the ticket actually arrived in the mail?not quite sure, not been home majority of this week so unable to check my post.
Kyanar: Nice to see the Herald bothered to fact check too. They again quote that incorrect article on the NZTA website, and on top of that say the law is on the OPs side (it's not - taking a picture with your phone's camera is not one of the approved uses of a phone when stopped in abnormal traffic).

The law was an animal like a donkey at the time it was written and Steven Joyce had to arrange an amendment to allow use of GPS. Use of a camera function is just another thing they never imagined. Now that Nikon and Samsung have cameras with phone capability there'll be another law saying you're not allowed anything shiny in your hand that might confuse a Policeman.

What the Herald actually says is "And the law appears to be in his side".
Maybe just a way of making the story run longer. Now it can be opportunity for a story link about NZTA and the police at odds on the issue. Since most people would assume the NZTA information is correct it is a good story to tell as it develops.
If this issue has no precedent in court then maybe they have a point anyway until the story goes one way or another.
Also a good opportunity for grammar check lol. Was it in the print edition like that?
