This would be perfect for putting in the lounge as a Media Server plugging into a TV and being able to view Movies/Videos on demand no matter which computer in the house had the movie/video
Work from home business. Two PC's + laptop get out sync :(. Have been looking at NAS options for some time, but this seems like it would be an even better option. Out-of-box server set up and deployment + small & quiet are prerequisites so this seems to fit the bill perfectly.
These are great little boxes, perfect for anything from simple NAS appliances to full dev / testing rigs. I really like that HP are trying to combine the range, so couple of the Microservers and switch could be used for a very flexible (not to mention compact) development virtual environment.
The best part of this server will be the design and the size. With this size, this machine should be a tempting choice for both business and home use. Customizing bezel color is also attractive :)
This would be perfect as a Christmas present for my in-laws. They could definitely use it to manage their business records, travel photo's and video's and their music and from the looks of it it would be simple enough even for them to manage.
The biggest advantage I can see is having 4 HDD bays allows you to have 4 x 2TB disks loaded allowing 4TB of RAID 10, which turns this into a very cost effective high capacity NAS solution. In fact I purchased an earlier microserver for a client for this exact purpose, and now also have a Debian VM running on it also (which you wouldn't be able to do with a regular embedded-based NAS).
Kind of sick of running my gaming rig as a file sever as well, not to mention I'm out of Ethernet ports on my "basic" modem this would be really handy in my house and would get much WAF (once up and running) due to size and its out of the wayness
