It is here! Our HP Microserver Gen8 with its companion HP PS1810-8G giveaway is live now... Read on for important information on how to enter.

We have been using a HP Microserver Gen8 here for a while. It's the perfect small server for small business offices and home offices all over. With Windows Server 2012 Essentials it provides small businesses with easy storage management, automated backup of computers connected to the network, plus some nice hardware features including:

  • four USB 2.0 ports (external)
  • one USB 2.0 port (internal)
  • one microSD slot (internal)
  • two USB 3.0 ports
  • two ethernet ports
  • four 3.5” bays
  • ILO

The internal USB port and microSD slot can be used to boot the server with VMWare ESXi Hypervisor if you are so inclined. With four drive bays you can expand storage as needed. Two ethernet ports allows network load balancing (when used with a compatible switch such as the HP PS1810-8G) plus one ethernet port for ILO, allowing remote access to the system even without a monitor, keyboard and mouse.

How to enter this giveaway: Simply visit the HP Microserver Gen8 to find out more about this server and reply below telling us what feature attracts you most and how it could benefit you or your business.

More changes to win: We have one HP Microserver Gen8 to giveaway, but there are seven units in total to be won. Other blogs are participating in this promotion and you have the chance to win one HP Microserver Gen8 in each of those. Here are the dates for their competitions:

October 27th - November 3rd

November 3rd - November 17th

November 17th - December 1st

Make sure you visit those sites on these dates and follow the instructions - you have a chance to win in each one of these.

Also 1CloudRoad is collating all the posts about the HP Microserver here.

I love the size. It's no bigger than a typical NAS, but way more flexible! Perfect size for home, and ideal serving up my growing media collection.

The instant out-of-box server set up and deployment really appeals - I am a bit of a server noob, so the ability to just plug it in and go is pretty appealing.

Love the flexibility. I no longer use a PC as a server at home, but the NAS I've replaced it with is just too limited. I love the idea of a small, fully featured server.

Love the compact size, and the specs for that size are a definite appeal, Nothing worse than having to find somewhere to hide a huge Full tower case or a rack cabinet, when this little beauty which sit nicely in a bookshelf or behind a desk

Oh man, I could use this to replace the NAS Linux server I have that chews up a bunch of power.
The two USB3 ports would be handy for backing up stuff on the RAID array as well.

Love the size and ease of setup. Sure beats having a tower or an old laptop act as a server. Will be excellent for backups and as a media hub for the house.

would be handy for all my files. Especially love the small form factor so could hide it from view or even have it in the living as such small rather than humongous tower server

I'm liking the internal USB OR microSD for booting ESXi, and the included iLO over previous versions. Would make a great little ESXi box for testing :-)

Easy hot swaps and iLO. My current N54L is used for backups and it's robust, reliable and all it needs is a physical cleaning once in a while (gets a bit dusty).
