I have an ASB Business Focus account with VISA Debit card. So far no success in getting this loaded. ASB are looking in to it for me.

Sorry to burst your bubble Countdown does not accept Visa Debit via Paywave, this is because they cant pass on the fee to the user so they just dont accept it, same with Debit Mastercard I think.

So does that mean if you have anything else other than Visa Debit card loaded on Semble, it will work?

I am fine with each provider Spark, Vodafone and 2Degrees publishing their supported phones and only providing support for those phones.

What I would like to see however is that the Semble App from all three providers will allow an install on any hardware that technically supports the service.

If a Sony Z3 is supported by one provider it obviously works, so should be supported by the others. In this day and age networks support BYOD, so should allow the app on a BYOD that technically support the service.

They still have the option not to provide technical support if it’s not listed on their compatible handsets listing.

Contactless credit - no problem.

Contactless debit - no dice.

It's all to do with the cost of accepting contactless debit transactions, which are routed through the schemes and therefore incur cost, where on proprietary debit (EFTPOS) there is none.

This is not entirely true.

Phones have different firmware for each network (and different markets) for a reason. The SIM Alliance API is NOT part of stock Android, so just because it's included in the firmware of a NZ handset on Spark for example doesn't mean it'll also be included in the firmware for another NZ network, or more importantly a foreign network.

BYOD isn't any guarantee that a device will work correctly, and we've seen this only plenty of occasions where (using one classic example I've experienced) using a phone with 2degrees firmware on Vodafone causes no end of grief due to some major issues between the firmware which is specific to each network.

Semble needs to be a rock solid solution and is a full end to end solution that relies on many things to work. BYOD can't necessarily guarantee this right now.

hazza87: I may as well get a SIM from 2degrees and find out, however i am not holding out too much hope since the snapper sim never worked on it.

Quick Update:

Since the lollipop update on my device (Note 3 - HK version) i had not tested the Snapper touch 2 pay, so i gave this a go today and it was successfully picked up on a snapper feeder at the Wellington iSite, sure this never worked before. I also had a look in the nfc settings and found semble listed under the tap and pay options (after installing the app of course)

This gave me hope to test it out. So i went down to 2degrees and got a new semble sim ($10 btw)
Before the sim swap semble came up saying device not supported and no semble sim detected. After the sim swap it now thinks a lot longer then comes up with the below message:

I am hoping that once 2degrees gets around to rolling out the lollipop update for the Note3 this will then become supported - can't be too far away now, most of Europe, US and Asia now have it.

Even though I don't bank with one of the institutions involved (at this stage) I think it is a valiant first attempt at this technology and will evolve.
I guess if android owners are sufficiently enraged by their handset/OS not being supported they can get an iPhone and use apple pay........ or not. ;-)

I don’t disagree what that aim in principal, but as soon as people can install whatever random apps they like, which they can on any Android phone, the device and therefore the process can never be “rock solid”

If Spark say they support Sony Z1 C6903 (which is pretty much a global model), and a person brings one from Australia and uses it on Spark, then they already have a grey area if they support it or not. If they choose to say, well it’s not an original Spark phone so we won’t support it, then fine that is up to them. But the situation already exists, and they already need to deal with it.

To me they would be better off embracing BYOD , if technically a specific device, i.e a NZ new Sony Z1 C6903 works for one provider, then they all should allow users to try and install on it.

Its not a big deal. I will be going back to my ASB PayTag for now. But if these companies want to get wide uptake of the service, and I would like to see that, they need to pull out the stops and support all the possible devices they can. If they don’t soon we will all be forced into Apple Pay.

Testing this today.

Ok, just used my HTC M9 at Countdown and it worked as intended.

The Semble app won't run - I had to use the HTC M8 to configure the SIM and make it always on for the default card. I then used the SIM on my M9 with Tap & Pay turned on and Semble seletect.

As Steve mentioned it may work for a couple of transactions only though due to cached tokens...

Heres the even more crapness I have found today.

Its one sim per account. Trying to log in as an existing user on my spark phone gets a message that the account already has a vodafone sim active and to call 777.

Umm, no thanks.

Was hoping to just log in, and the cards would be there ready to add to the second sim.

So make a new account, put a +something on the gmail address. Yay, will get 2 copies of all promo and other emails.

Anyway. Then I have to add the cards again. Worked a lot better this time. But ASB have generated more fake card numbers.

Only thing is the second set of fake card numbers is not showing in the pin assignment list.

I tried the S3 at 3 places after it was active in the app, once with the pay countdown on the screen and nothing happened. NFC is working on the phone because when I bump it to my other phone I get the prompt for what NFC app to open. Just nothing happened on the pinpad at either warehouse, united sweets, or carls jr.

This is the the $80.00 question! I hope this is a full EMV implementation on the SE, so would have no more need of caching tokens then a regular plastic EMV Chip+Pin card.
