Yeah, I saw many people bragging about all the zigbee stuff they got at huge discounts so I can see why they didnt bring the range here so close to its end.

As for matter, I will be passing on it till they remove the QR nonsense and allow for normal pairing processes, and to share between apps that is not doing it one at a time. I got 10 moes wifi matter lamps and no way in hell am I doing that again. Took probably an hour to get them up and running in alexa, and google, and then when I went to add to home assistant it was failing and it turns out there was a limit of 2 apps that can control them.

That's why I don't use manufacturer hubs in HomeAssistant, but rather the respective integration and one zigbee and thread wireless stick each

… and as little WiFi as possible (a few power measuring/monitoring devices and a ventilation fan only).

Ikea first time at CES - shows off new products and coming Samsung Smart Things integration

Includes USD pricelist. Who would have thought IKEA would kick off consumer home automation.

Ikea launched their zigbee Tradfri line in 2016. They have been at this for a long time.

They are changing things up at the moment, moving from zigbee to matter for smart home and also dropping the sinos speakers. I feel like moving to Bluetooth speakers is a step backwards though.

jameshammond:

Some of the matter range is now stocked in NZ:

Yes, and a door/window sensor, PIR and a button. No smart bulbs yet but I'm sure they will come.

I'm new to matter/threads and am keen to experiment and find out how they compare to their zigbee products which I have used extensively with home assistant. What I really want to find out is how easy and reliable pairing is, particularly directly to home assistant. At some point I'd like to use them in conjunction with iOS/Android, given that phones are starting to have threads radios. If anyone has som real world experience, do get in touch!

Thanks!

I'm wondering if I can use all that with my Google TV Streamer with matter support, or do I need to buy the IKEA bridge thing to get anything out of it.

Be aware with matter/thread you‘ll have to deal with IPv6.

We went out to IKEA last week - son number 2 wanted a few things to tidy up his bedroom storage.

Many of the things that we scanned showed as "in stock", but when getting to the collection point downstairs they were not in fact, in stock.

Now they show online as available for delivery or pickup, but when moving to the purchase phase, they are not available for delivery or pickup.

They really need to sort out their stock control/website/app or people are just going to give up on them.

I had a Billy Bookshelf delivered to Dunedin, original ETA was 20th Dec, arrived last Monday. I now want another and they won't ship one at this point lol. They'll get there as the popularity dies down but its a bit of a shambles for now.

Stock availability is woefully wrong and doesn't seem to update in real time despite the app and website putting a time and date on it. A friend bought the last 4 of something from the self pick area at the bottom - confirmed by staff that there were no more, and the app and site were still saying that it was available after they had checked out.

I have bought things (billys and oxsomething doors) that the app said were restocking in 2 days time and had none, but there were heaps in the self pick area.

I'm off there tonight to get another billy as I can only wedge one in the car for each trip. just hoping its really there and not a wasted trip.

I bought three of them to have fun in the office. We named them „Donald,“ „Vance“ and „Elon.“ Any reference to living or deceased persons would be purely coincidental and unintentional. 😁

The three of them tease each other all day long and make silly jokes.
