SJB:

Binge watched The Handmaid's Tale seasons 1 and 2 (aka Trumps Wet Dream).

Overall I thought it was excellent although a little slow in places.

Elizabeth Moss as June was outstanding. When she puts on that special look of hate even plants wither.

Yes, hard to watch but excellent. Do not read the follow up book, The Testaments. You do find out what happens to the characters but wow it's not up to scratch in the writing department. I was wondering if it was a parody...

Reminded me of the sequel to To Kill a Mockingbird. Sorry to have read it.

Killing Eve | S1 | BBC | 4/10

... Too much happening in a short space of time which either wasn't, or couldn't, be explained and that's not for me.

Killing Eve series 1 & 2 - 9/10 as a dark comedy with some pointed social commentary and punchlines arriving after multiple episodes. But 1/10 for its contact with reality. It relies on a crazy amount of magical coincidences and inexplicable decisions. I wrote out three examples then had to remove them because they are significant spoilers.

War of the Worlds on TV1. Bloody hell, it's really well done and thank god there are no Americans in it.

Manhunt 8/10 TVNZ On Demand.

Excellent Brit detective thriller in 3 parts based on actual events. Martin Clunes surprisingly good as the lead detective and a really good atmosphere.

Bob Hearts Abishola.

Another Chuck Lorre comedy, if you don't like those others, you won't like this one, but I am enjoying it. Gina Yashere is excellent and is one of my favourite characters. A little like Victoria from Mike and Molly.

I thought E1 was great, E2 not so much - really lost its way IMO.

I didn’t realise there were three episodes and I thought that was all after E2 - realised later. Now I doubt that I’ll bother with E3.

I felt the same way. I didn't enjoy it and ended up muting most of it.

I’m confused - first you said “it’s really well done” - then “I didn’t enjoy it ...”.

New Season of The Purge is starting and for once it's focusing on the aftermath of a Purge... Great start so far...

I meant the first episode was well done and I didn't enjoy the second episode.

Einsatzgruppen:The Nazi Death Squads. On Netflix 8/10

Obviously a terrifying topic on the activities of the death squad on the eastern front during ww2.

Done in the very calm moderate tones of the World at War tv series from early 1980s. Ie narrated black and white footage (except for a disturbing 30s of colour film where a traumatised German soldier on home leave reinacted a scene where he hung up his sisters soft toys on a gibet and hung and burnt them).

Many firat person accounts of witnessed events and some modern hidden camera interviews of now elderly soldiers.

Marked contrast in how participants dealt with after the war was for me chilling and something I hadn't considered despite an interest in ww2 history.
