Agreed. It's not like it's a new format. Also working somewhere that has a email scanning thing that blocks them and webp images despite both being in wide use.

Apple strikes again adopting a standard different from pretty everyone else. Not saying HEIC isn't good, just another case of Apple marching to a different tune.

An older employee at my daughters work (petrol station) keeps inappropriately touching the female employees. 

 

They've complained to the manager once, but he won't do anything about it because this employee is the only one who can do the paperwork in the weekends. 

 

What do you do? This company is large.  Daughter (16yrs old) could go up the chain, but she'd lose her job.

One of the victims needs to lodge a formal police complaint (I realise that is not easy). This will take it out of the manager's hands. 

 

A situation like this should not be tolerated or allowed to fester. It is unacceptable. Full stop.

The reality is that not much can be done, and they may risk losing their job for 'poor performance'. 

 

This is lower level offending as far as I can understand, like brushing past body parts as opposed to actual groping.  Police will likely say insufficient evidence, he says she says! Who'd want to go through a police investigation for minor offending? It isn't worth the stress/drama/reputational damage. 

 

My daughter can always quit. But, the other fulltime female staff, some immigrants,  need their jobs so they put up with this creep's behaviour.

I can think of three choices:

 

 

 

Do nothing. Put up with the suspicions and hope he doesn't escalate to worse conduct against your daughter or someone else.

 

 

 

Go official. You've heard the proof is low / missing so you might have to go to some trouble to get multiple complaints that agree, or make covert audio or video recordings if the complainants can't access the company VR system. 

 

Yes, there'd be big repercussions for the complainants but this type of case is very toxic for the employer so you can expect the publicity to stop the offender, or at least move him somewhere else. Any employer that brushed off this kind of case is going to be crucified in the court of public opinion.

 

The offender will very much not want to have such an offense on his name. The publicity is likely to have wider benefits to make other men realise this behaviour is not on .

 

 

 

Lastly, have a couple of 'concerned relatives' drop into work or nearby and look the guy in the eye from a short distance. You'd do anything to protect her etc etc. To be clear, I'm not suggesting violence but show that your daughter has support.

Another option: Have someone who otherwise never goes near that petrol station and who looks a bit intimidating go up to him and say something like "I hear you've been inappropriately touching my daughter/wife (depending on age, and don't identify which one is the daughter or wife). If you ever do this again I'll (something about removing body parts). This is your one and only warning".

 

 

If he's been getting away with this for ages then he's going to keep doing it. If he thinks doing this to anyone there will result in him having body parts removed, he may decide to stop. It's not addressing the problem via proper channels but could well be the easiest and least painful solution.

 

 

(Insert various anecdotes of people doing this. Many perpetrators only do it because there's never been any pushback, so any pushback at all stops the behaviour).

Tell her to defend herself and whack him one hard across the face and to yell 'never touch me again.' Next step take nebs advice. What’s he going to do...call the police because she smacked him?

He knows exactly what he’s doing and is most likely secretly scared he will be caught. He’s not stupid, he knows the repercussions for harassment very well as does everyone these days and I’m certain he’s going to back off really fast when she or the others make loud noise and stand up to him.
Meek is not an option... tell her to reclaim her power.

Relatives once owned a large petrol station. Over time they found that almost every employee was dishonest to some degree. Wandering Hans probably thinks he's entitled to lots of things. Maybe that could be his downfall. In the meantime confront each incident as Eva888 says.

Seconding this, but not the threat bit. 

 

If you know someone about three feet wide but dressed smartly and who can speak in calm but loud voice, then telling them how it is and then walking straight out is going to make him shit himself. And you can bet every colleague who overhears it will either know or suspect what he's been up to.

I've been caught out enough by this sort of thing that I write "Cancel XYZ" on my day planner as soon as I sign up for something that has this system. It's saved me heaps of grief over the years.

For trial periods I usually cancel immediately - the trial continues for the seven days anyway. That way don't need to remember to cancel, and if I decide to continue you just re-subscribe the account.
