MurrayM:Waking up in the middle of the night to hear a smoke detector somewhere in the house chirping every few minutes to let you know that its battery is running low, then when you get up in the morning and go looking for the offending detector its decided that the battery isn't low after all and has stopped chirping.

Until tonight!

That's why you replace them once a year whether they need it or not, and you can take your bath at the same time.

But only when daylight saving time changes. Otherwise you wait another year for the bath.

That seems very wasteful; in my experience, good quality batteries last at least five years in smoke alarms

Better than risking getting woken up by something beeping even.

Use the batteries in kids’ toys. Either the child gets lots of enjoyment from the toy working, or you get peace and quiet once the battery is completely flat after the child has played with it a bit.

Tip: consider having half flat batteries of different sizes for use on Christmas Day when childless or absent relatives give noise-producing gifts.

What sort of batteries are you using? When I was using 9v Eveready alkaline they seemed to give 18 months or so. Never a full 2 years.

I'd have to take one down and check but I think either Duracell or the Eveready equivalent.  I have about 5 smoke detectors around the house and they all seem to last quite well.  If they lasted 18 months then I'd agree on changing every year, but they seem to last much longer and always work well when tested.  And my kids are well beyond the battery-powered annoying toy stage now...

I think it also depends on the smoke detectors. I got Mother Neb good-quality dual ionisation and photoelectric detectors and the batteries in those only last 12-18 months.

Before we got hardwired detectors I just used to recharge the batteries once a year, which is where I got the 12-month pattern from.

Slightly over-the-top tracking of overseas shipments. People complain about the lack of tracking with NZ Post, but compare that with:

Your parcel has boarded the plane.

Your parcel is enjoying pre-dinner drinks.

Your parcel had the chicken for dinner.

Your parcel is watching a Chinese foreign-language drama.

Your parcel rated the film four out of five.

Your parcel has now fallen asleep.

Tried to log in to a website that I haven't accessed for many years (overseas pension scheme).

Well, not really but I guess I have no choice. Perhaps It will link it to my existing account.

Attempt 2: Create new account

Enter email address and new password (twice)

"This email address is already linked to an existing account, have you forgotten your password?"

What the??

Attempt 3: Click on forgot password

Enter email address and click reset password.

"This email address does not match any of our accounts on record, would you like to create a new account?"

You've got to be kidding me!!😡

Glass mayonnaise jars always have a tapered shape, making the neck narrower than the rest. This means you have to fidget with the knife to work mayonnaise out from the edges as it gets used up. It is difficult and irritating to get all of it and it gets all over the fingers and some always remains behind.

Plastic mayonnaise jars do not have this problem. Most are the same width from top to bottom, making it easy to scoop along the side with a knife held well up the handle. But they are plastic, and that is not acceptable.

Why has not one single manufacturer of mayonnaise glass jars discovered how much better the plastic ones are in this respect?

This is the most inconsequential annoyance I have ever been able to come up with, and it really annoys me!
